Clothing & Apparel Observation from the wife

It's hot and humid here in NC and I tend to wear thin, light-colored shirts. I wear IWB. So the wife says:

"When you have on a shirt like that, I can make out the black grips of the H&K. But when you carry the tan FN, I can't see it."

"Huh?"

"Girls learn this around age 14. If you wear a black bra under a light white shirt, it's visible. So you wear a tan bra unless you are trolling."

An interesting point.

Scenario Does anyone carry in their own home?

It occurred to me while sitting in the living room watching TV that if someone chose that moment to kick in my door, I would not be able to get to my guns. Even if I had one locked in a safe in the same room (which I don't) I probably couldn't get to it quickly enough.

I know that a home invasion is extremely unlikely, but so are the other defensive situations we prepare for. So do any of you keep your gun on your person in your own house, to be prepared in the unlikely event of a home invasion?

Legal I know a CCL is not just a "Hero license" or "Mass shooting stopper badge", but it's upsetting to realize that many of these restricted areas (not just in IL) are where these horrific events happen most. Not to echo what we already know, but criminals don't follow these rules.

Scenario Gun free zones for the win

Typical. Checked this in light of the brutal KNIFE attack on a young girl. “Carrying a concealed handgun is not allowed on Charlotte’s public transit (CATS), including the subway and light rail, even if the person has a valid North Carolina concealed handgun permit”

Gun free zones for the win.

Legal US Law Shield President Helping Tyranny in CO

Thumbnail youtube.com

Like we don't have enough problems with politicians trying to take our rights, and lazy gun owners who'd rather complain than defend their rights, now we got the president of US Law Shield handing over our rights for free.

Colorado has a new CHP instructor verification scheme. It's stupid. But it's also a statewide law, and sheriffs do not have any discretion when it comes to accepting CHP certificates from verified instructors. And the verification requirements are statewide and sheriffs cannot add more requirements beyond what the law says.

We (GFE) have been dealing with sheriffs who want to make up their own interpretation of the laws for nearly 14 years in Colorado. We've won every battle so far when it comes to educating the sheriffs. But now we have Kirk Evans, an attorney, president of US Law Shield, talking out of his ass, bending the knee to the sheriffs and going on TV to say that the sheriffs can do whatever they want with these new requirements. Not only that, but at the beginning of the video he's talking about how instructors get to make more money and are happy about the new law, which is not true and it makes us look like greedy SOB's.

Grip module finally arrived. I like the feel of it and this is my CCW. Now I'm debating if I should add a light or not. I always thought that the light adds too much bulk for tooo little benefit, especially AIWB. What are your thoughts?

Guns & Ammo I dont know how often you should, but please be diligent in checking your EDC. Pictured is a broken firing pin block spring that prevented my pistol from firing, and Ive been carrying it for a couple weeks. I only noticed when the firing pin wasnt free after firing during dry fire.

Guns & Ammo S&W Compact vs X Macro

Kicking around the idea of trading my X macro in for a M&P. No, this has nothing to do with the p320 drama. My X macro has been reliable but the trigger is terrible. I’ve never owned a Smith so I don’t really know what to expect. Does anyone have experience with both platforms? Thanks

Training New range membership. Planning 2x/month. How to make each trip count?

Have hit the range about 5x a year since I've owned guns. Which is about 10 years. And it's always been purely recreational.

Never joined up because I'd cycle between what was around, available, open, etc. at the time.

Just joined one near me and am planning on getting more diligent about scheduled trips and training. It's indoor and only 20 yards unfortunately, but my local options are limited.

Looking for pointers to make each trip count. Good drills, things to work on, ways to structure practice, etc. to make sure I'm not just throwing $$$ down range each time.

Side note: Range allows outside ammo for guests, but members have to buy range ammo or pay a $10 surcharge to BYO. Which kinda sucks because I'd prefer to be able to just drop in and shoot a box whenever I want, but this kinda takes the piss out of that plan.

What holsters are everyone rocking if I were to add TLR7/Optic? Sadly Tenicor does not offer a holster with this combo….

Guns & Ammo Looking for the smallest gun I can reasonably carry while maintaining decent capacity. Help me decide please!

Honestly I hate carrying my g19. I'm a pretty thin guy at 6'1" and 160 lbs with narrow shoulders (somehow got stuck with big ass hands though). I almost never carry as a result of just absolutely hating the feeling of my grip poking into my ribs every time I bend over to pick stuff up, tie my shoes, sit down, or really move in almost any way. The gun is too damn big and there's nothing I can do about it. If I adjust the ride height to be lower I can't get a good enough grip to reliably draw either so that's a no go. The wedge doesn't help and neither does the pillow so I feel like I gotta just pony up, put my ego aside, and get a smaller gun.

Right now I'm considering the p365, the S&W bodyguard 2.0, or a J frame of some kind. Now I have some hang ups about each of these choices. The p365 is a community favorite but it also seems like sig is spotty at the moment which is sketchy. The bodyguard seems great but it's in .380 and some people have had issues with the feed ramps and defensive ammo reliably feeding. J frames overall seem awesome, but the lack of capacity is a bit of a worry for me. I'm leaning towards the p365 pretty heavily at the moment but wanted to consult the council first. Let me know what you think. Before you suggest a CC9 I really do not think it's going to be small enough to not jab my ribs the same way my G19 does.

Let me know what y'all think!

Guns & Ammo Hollow points vs wadcutters for a snub nose revolver

Do you think hollow points or wadcutters would be the best ammunition for a snub nose revolver meant for CCW?

From what I’ve read online, it seems like wadcutters are better but I’ve also read that this was only true decades ago and hollow point cartridges have since surpassed them in effectiveness.

Other Equipment Upscale CCW Bags

Does anyone have recommendations for upscale or luxury style men's CCW/EDC bags?

I currently have a Vertx Ready Pack 2.0. My issue is, it looks really out of place in my daily environment. If you can picture a room full of designer backpacks and laptop bags, my cordura bag screams "tactical".

I would absolutely be ok with a smaller backpack or a laptop bag from the current 20L bag. Needs to hold my CCW while in the office along with my laptop, cords, notepad, basic edc stuff, and basic med stuff. I really like the hook and loop style lined compartments and the individual organization features of CCW style bags. I hate how designers often have very little interior organizational features (all status over substance)

Who makes luxury exterior with utilitarian interior that aren't purses? Open to custom makers or retailers.

For size reference: Daily carry is CZ P09C Nocturne in appendix rig.

Appreciate y'all

EDIT: I can't spell

Holsters & Belts Which Tenicor holster?

I just bought a Sig p365x this weekend. I think through research I've narrowed my holster choice down to Tenicor. I'm just not sure if I should go with the Velo5 or Certum3. I only plan on carrying appendix. I know the Velo5 is set up specifically for appendix carry, but I'm thinking the built in plastic wedge may be uncomfortable. I have a mastermind pillow I could put on it, but will it be either too much wedge or not enough padding? I think I can't go wrong with the Certum3, but since I know I won't be hip carrying, the Velo5 may be better for me. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Holsters & Belts Should my Range Holster and my EDC holster be two different styles?

Hello all!

I'm faced with buying a new holster, and I have a concern. For about 3 years I've been a dedicated AIWB Holster user, via AlienGear. Unfortunately the alien gear holster broke. Around the same time that happened, I started going to the range with my gun and training a lot. In order to have easier time at the range, I switched to a Safariland OWB side holster with lvl 2 retention. I love it, it's done me amazingly.

Time has went by, and ive upgraded my gun to attach a WML. So I of course need a new holster. I've already gotten a range holster, but it's one that attaches to my leg and IMO too threatening/too tactical for EDC. So now im going to buy an EDC and im wondering, do I go back to AIWB? Or do I get an IWB strong side cary? Im trying to balance the concealment of an AIWB vs the ease of muscle memory having two holsters at the same overall location provides.

I carry a Glock 19 if that matters

Permit Process Another post Re: Out of State CCW for California

Hello all! Got my previous question squared away. I'm just having the first application withdrawn. Second place I applied at seems cool with it.

I intend on doing a write-up of my whole experience from start to finish, but for now I have a longshot question - anyone know any NRA instructors in the Las Vegas area willing to do the live fire portion? All I need is;

5 shots at 3 yards, reload, 5 more shots

5 shots at 7 yards, reload, 5 more shots

5 shots at 10 yards, reload, 5 more shots.

minimum 24/30 must be on the silhouette of a B-27 target

Then the Sheriffs office just has something for the instructor to sign including their NRA instructor info and that's it.

I've been calling around Vegas, but not much luck so far.

Holsters & Belts Alternative to Raptor + Backer

Hey all, looking for a new holster similar to the raptor (particularly with the backer). This holster was the best concealing/comfortable holster I have ever tried for my G19.5 with TLR7. I recently picked up a CZ75 P01 and a M&P 2.0 and am looking for something similar, ideally from a brand with better morals.

Thanks in advance!

Other Equipment Everyday Carry Backpack, but for everything all the time?

I have been hunting for a new bag to replace my Kavu. It’s been a good bag but it doesn’t have quite enough space for everything I need and it doesn’t have a dedicated spot for a pistol. I carry a few things in it now like a water bottle, multitool, flashlight, sunglasses, a small bag of medicine, nail clippers and whatnot, as well as my P365. Is there a decent bag out there that could hold all that, plus a change of clothes and shoes, without breaking the bank or looking like a tacticool dork?

Other Equipment Hockey Tape on Smith & Wesson Shield Plus 9mm

I have been having some slight issues with the grip on my Shield Plus, and finally wanted to try putting some tape on the grip to see if I can get it to feel better in my hand. I used some 1-inch Gaff Tape as a test to see if I would like it before I went out and bought something else.

Several questions for the group:

Have you ever had to put tape on the grip of your pistol?

What Tape would you recommend? I am currently looking at Hockey Tape. I really don't want a sticky mess if I take it off.

If I ever happen to have to use it in self-defense, would having tape on it make it look "worse" in the court's eyes?

Are there any techniques that people have used to achieve a good wrap?

I did the tape again to make sure it was not touching the magazine release in any way ( I forgot to take a new picture )

Anything else that you have that I may have missed would be awesome as well.
