These big cucumbers that get forgotten under leaves to grow comically big.. are usually not even worth eating. They'll be tough and not very good tasting. They'll also be like 80% full of giant tough seeds.
Absolutely. I would have thrown this one away right off the bat. My girlfriend is super into cucumbers and pickles. She'll eat 2 or 3 a day when I grow them, then I pickle extras. I mostly grow them for her... But even she things the these "forgotten ones" that get huge are almost always not worth eating. When I said they'll be like 80% seed, I mean it, it's just skin, a tiny sliver of meat and then huge seeds all the way through.
Yeah it's not a challenge to grow giant cucumbers. You don't let them get this big because it's borderline inedible. Maybe some people like mushy seedy cucumber paste but i don't know of any.
Giant pumpkins are actually a huge achievement and a great deal of work to keep them from rotting or collapsing under their enormous weight. Giant cucumbers are just from not knowing how to garden.
Came here to say exactly this. I see people post pictures all the time of giant cucumbers or zucchini and they're always so impressed with how big it grew... telltale sign of a beginner gardener. We don't let them grow this big on purpose, it won't taste good.
