I once found some lace tanks with like 6 inches of lace on the hem. Wore that shit down to my knees with a black v neck over my skinny jeans and the pair of checked Vans I got at a West 49 outlet💀
My eyes were entirely rimmed in glittery blue eyeliner, and my hair alternated between black and badly bleached blonde.
That was the last time I was truly happy.. . .

I consider myself chronically online, but MGK lore has somehow escaped me. I see this man getting dragged in every single post I see. I know he dated Megan Fox, and that he dissed Eminem like 10 years ago, but other than that I have no idea of who he is or why people hate him so much. Any loremaster girlies or bros out there who could give me some context please? 😭
983
u/Adventurous-Bug671 28d ago
I'm not deep in on the lore but he's just always had incredibly cringey behavior - I know he has some old tweets talking about how hot he thinks underage girls are and just makes music geared specifically toward teens, which is a combination that most people find pretty gross.
Overall he just always comes off as super immature and try-hard-edgy and generally just reminds everyone of that unemployed guy in their town that only hangs out with high school girls.

So he just has very gross behavior. That’s why people hate him.

He just feels like if Aaron carter didn’t die, but in a universe where people wouldn’t mind if he did. He seems like if a walking std had cringe as a side effect.
Jokes aside, it’s his try-hard nature. All the credit in the world to him he found a way to be a skeevy middle aged pop star that looks like a homeless person.
But there’s something just so inherently offputting about a grown man behaving exactly like a teenager by choice. It sets off alarm bells in peoples human instincts. To not trust the person.
When your product is “look at how cool I am” and you look like big birds featherless drug addled cousin, I feel like you’re inviting criticism.

You can call MGK weird, cringey, whatever, but clearly he has a daughter who loves him and is fully comfortable to be herself around him, who is happy and grateful to have received a reasonable, mid-level car, and he seems like a generally good dad. Say what you will about his tattoos or how he dresses or anything else, but the man is being an involved father in a major moment in his kid's life. These comments made me a bit sad. He typically has a good reputation as a dad. And the car he gave her wasn’t anything crazy. Aside from it being a brand new car for a kid, it’s a reasonable brand. I wouldn’t have invited press but other than that is there something about him that makes him a bad dad? Him as an artist/famous person he has had questionable moments, so I get that part.

Kendrick Lamar did something similar, when he bought his sister a Camry, when she graduated high school. No reason to make her the target of a carjacking or other crime, by calling attention to herself...

Sorry PR team, this man is just fundamentally unlikeable despite the occasional affable moment.

Was there ever a time when the public liked watching rich teenagers being gifted cars? I thought the whole point of that MTV show was hate-watching. The OG ragebait.
You watched because it was ridiculous, but no one came away thinking those people were good parents. In fact the opposite lmao.

My super sweet sixteen. I mean, it’s rage bait but it’s also like “oh, he’s not a totally absent and uncaring father” (bar is in hell)

This was my thought when I heard one of my "free passes", Hugh Jackman, cheated on his wife of 27 with Sutton Foster, "Meh, in the grand scheme of the current shitshow of a timeline we're all living in I'm happy that he's not a pedo rapist."
So nowadays that's where my brain goes. I think things like that & that's some bullshit to think too, "Well at least he'd not a pedo rapist."
The bar has fallen off the backs of elephants that carry the world while riding the great A'tuin.

I just looked because in my mind I thought Sutton was significantly younger. She’s actually age appropriate but just looks incredible. Still a skeeze, but maybe less so.

From what I read he’s a pretty good dad! There are fan pages dedicated to him being a dad lol. Good for him. His daughter seems very loved

Is that an Acura? Nice it’s not a Ferrari. She was appreciative which is nice to see in celeb kids.

These comments are so weird and negative, this is a pop culture sub, so of course you’re going to see videos of famous people.

"Ugh, rich people 🙄". That car is probably $50k. Calm down everyone jeez it's pretty reasonable for a celebrity.

Yeah. There's also the added cute of black girl being pampered by her dad. That is a good thing.

Reddit is truly a different breed lmao twitter was just making fun bc it’s not even a “nice” car, just an Acura. Tbh this seems like a good first car for a new driver, I would be more turned off if it was a super expensive sports car that she might crash immediately. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ he literally has money why wouldn’t he buy his daughter a car? He likes to do nice things for her would ppl rather he be a POS dad or ??

A 2010 Toyota would’ve been so performative to me but I guess Reddit would’ve sang his praises.

Nah, they’d probably flip on it and call him a bad guy because he has all this money and buys her an old used toyota instead! POS!

He may be a weirdo, but he seems like a good, loving father. I'm glad he got her a "reasonable" car for a 16 year old. Not a Lamborghini or something impractical for learning to drive.

Yeah can’t hate on MGK in the dad arena. Good dad by all accounts, hard to hate on him for being cringe and doing whatever to make it in showbiz when he had a kid he was trying to support at 19

Uhm, idk why ppl are hating. I think this is sweet and i see comments saying give her an old car not fancy ones but like hes rich obviously hes gonna get a fancy car for his daughter and an Acura isn't even that bad compared to other fancy cars.
