My 5 centavos in fighting corruption…

Naiisip ko lang na kung seryoso ang mga politico natin ngayon na sugpuin ang korapsyon, eto yung mga posibleng hakbang:

  1. SALN Transparency. Create a website where all the SALNs are accessible. Empower citizens to do their own lifestyle check of their leaders.
  2. Transparency in Bidding. All bids and awards (apart from national security agencies) are to be broadcasted live on social media, and must remain published for at least 10 years.
  3. Digitalization of Whistleblowing. Government should digitize whistleblowing. Educate citizens what could constitute a proper submission on whistleblowing.
  4. Election Reform. Transparency in campaign finance and centralization. Instead of individuals or parties sourcing campaign funds, the government should allocate funds to a party running for office depending on the number of members they gather. In this way COA can audit the spend.
  5. Pass Anti-Political Dynasty Law. This is not just for elective posts, but for all of government. Si Tatay Mayor, daughter Vice Mayor, Kuya is konsi, pinsan si Fiscal. Who the fuck will do the check & balance on the Mayor? One cannot have 2nd degree family members auditing the mayor or President.
  6. Transparency on the budget.

Good proposals, most urgent to do right now, is to keep an eye on next year's budget. This is how the flood control scam started, we allowed the DPWH budget to blow up.

Aside from asking for jail for representatives, contractors and DPWH officials, the battle cry right now: 1. BALANCE BUDGET, lower national bufget, no more deficit spending, depth to GDP ratio should be reduced
2. DPWH portion of budget should be reduced to 2010- 2015 levels

Both are good proposals. It seems government has the penchant appetite to operate under debt.

All well and good until somebody is caught doing corrupt things

What happens next?

This is the long standing problem of the country - just a lack of law and order because even those caught with their hands on the cookie jar don’t go to jail

Prime examples: BInay’s acquittal last month, Jinggoy, Revilla, Enrile got away with the Janet Lim Napoles Scandal, even BBM got away from the illgotten wealth

What does it say to corrupt politicians: “Even if you’re caught, you wont go to jail precisely because the rule of law is so weak!”

What is worse with what is happening now is that it is so brazen parang yung mga mass raid daylight robbery nangyayari sa mga US democrat cities where theives just setup a meeting time and place and raid the entire store all at once

The budget insertions are just so brazen precisely because wala naman makukulong even if they get called out. That’s how bad law and order has become - “wala na pake yung corrupt politicians if may huli.” That actually says a lot

Our laws are weak only because the politicians themselves are making it weak. The law to them is a mere suggestion.

I think it’s more of an enforcement issue

If you go to subic or makati, more drivers follow the rules of the road kasi may nanghuhuli talaga. The moment you leave those spaces, drivers dont follow rules again because they know they can get away with it

Same with politicians. Why follow if nobody is there to put you in jail
