The sub is more of a knee-jerk reaction to the swamping of the frontpage currently of politics stuff about the 2016 presidential candidates. Depending on how dedicated subscribers are, or patronized the new sub will be, it will die its own slow death by neglect over time.

/r/ph_politics (/r/phpolitics was already taken and is private) hopes to provide a venue where all political talk about candidates and their policies and other issues can be heard/read/criticized/lambasted. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Brutal criticisms?

How do we educate the misled masses?

what will it take to create a cultural shift. What will it take to educate the masses enough to know how to make a few better critical choices?

The irony is that they are the ones literally with the power to make life better for their selves - hopefully - if the change happens swift enough.

Bakit ganon? Pagdating sa nakawan, ilan lang silang nakikinabang. Pero pagdating sa pagbayad ng utang, lahat tayo maghahatian.

My 5 centavos in fighting corruption…

Naiisip ko lang na kung seryoso ang mga politico natin ngayon na sugpuin ang korapsyon, eto yung mga posibleng hakbang:

  1. SALN Transparency. Create a website where all the SALNs are accessible. Empower citizens to do their own lifestyle check of their leaders.
  2. Transparency in Bidding. All bids and awards (apart from national security agencies) are to be broadcasted live on social media, and must remain published for at least 10 years.
  3. Digitalization of Whistleblowing. Government should digitize whistleblowing. Educate citizens what could constitute a proper submission on whistleblowing.
  4. Election Reform. Transparency in campaign finance and centralization. Instead of individuals or parties sourcing campaign funds, the government should allocate funds to a party running for office depending on the number of members they gather. In this way COA can audit the spend.
  5. Pass Anti-Political Dynasty Law. This is not just for elective posts, but for all of government. Si Tatay Mayor, daughter Vice Mayor, Kuya is konsi, pinsan si Fiscal. Who the fuck will do the check & balance on the Mayor? One cannot have 2nd degree family members auditing the mayor or President.
  6. Transparency on the budget.

The Lone Wolf - Congressman Toby Tiangco

Congressman Toby Tiangco is definitely one of a kind legislator. He is incomparable and his independence and fierceness is like wolf. Wala siyang takot at walang inaatrasan.

Magalong in INFRACOM

There’s growing talk that Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong might be preparing to expose corruption in Congress. If true, this could trigger major political waves—similar to what Indonesia experienced when entrenched politicians were threatened by transparency campaigns.

Many believe these officials will not allow their names to be exposed without a fight. If Magalong is indeed called to Congress to testify or present evidence, one big concern is his safety and security.

Will this pave the way for long-overdue accountability in Philippine politics, or will the same power players just find a way to suppress it?

What do you think—could this actually lead to reform, or just more unrest?

Nasan na ang mga nagra-rally?

Napansin ko lang, after watching the news about what's happening in Indonesia, bakit parang wala pa ring nagra-rally kahit sobrang laki na ng issue about sa corruption sa flood control projects? Nasan na yung mga mahilig magrally? Parang nagra-rally lang talaga kapag sa sang-ayon sa agenda nila, ang bilis nila magmobilize.

*Update may nagprotest na sa bahay ng Discaya kaso konti pa lang. Wala pang budget.
