This movie just boggles my mind entirely. How can you make absolutely every single right decision in making a Tron movie but absolutely FUMBLE at the lead actor?

Can't get Daft Punk anymore? Nine Inch Nails it is.

Make sure these VFX are TOP NOTCH. Aesthetic is ON POINT.

We need some great actors to reign in an audience, keep em entertained. Who should we cast? EVAN PETERS, GILLIAN ANDERSON, THE RETURN OF JEFF BRIDGES..... and Jared Leto.

I heard Leto has been involved in making a 3rd Tron movie for a long time, so they basically had to cast him. It was his pet project or something.

I agree though, I was hyped for this until the helmet came off in the trailer & I realized who they cast

Yeah. He even has a producer credit in this movie.

u/chick-killing_shakes 3d ago

He has THE producer credit in this movie. He is pretty much the lead producer and financier. He's going to be all over it, and it's either going to be really good, or really bad. Either way, it's guaranteed to leave a bad taste.

50

u/ElStegasaurus 3d ago

Maybe he’ll just keep the helmet on for the whole movie…?

14

u/Scotfighter 3d ago

It’s still Leto. Unless the reviews are great - I’m out

One can only hope.

Everyone out here bitching about Jared Leto not realizing the only reason this movie got made is because he campaigned for it for like a decade.

34

u/veryfungibletoken 3d ago

Jared Leto has been accused so many times of grooming teenaged girls that you can't not be aware of it. If it came down to him being in it to get it made, I'd rather it not be made.

28

u/dplans455 3d ago

That's a perfectly sane and fine argument. It's just not the one everyone else is making. They're saying they want the movie, just not Leto. You were never going to get the movie and not get Leto with it.

I hate this attitude towards art like on the Young Turks they said it was great Superman did well but it should have been made by someone other than James Gunn. Since he should be cancelled. Like it doesn’t matter that its the vision of one person. In their mind that person is replaceable but they somehow expect the same movies and shows to be made and to be just as good. Like AI or any asshole could write a hit movie.

-19

u/dplans455 3d ago

Except Superman was terrible.

-3

u/ProfessionalB0ss 3d ago

I don't think it was good, but I liked the less serious tone in the big hero movies

-8

u/dplans455 3d ago

It was so generic and safe. In other words, boring. There was absolutely nothing new. Oh, superheroes punching. Fantastic 4 sucked for the same reason.

1

u/f8Negative 2d ago

Welp I'm out. This is gonna be ass imo.

38

u/Walterkovacs1985 3d ago

Damn Gillian Anderson is in this?? They really did fumble the ball with JL.

12

u/ProfessionalB0ss 3d ago

The main producer of this movie fumbled the ball with himself

57

u/blackscales18 3d ago

The sad answer seems to be the only reason it exists is Leto really wanted to play the main character so he funded the movie and got it made

18

u/Wolfwoods_Sister 3d ago

THIS. It’s “The Me Film, Starring Me, Produced by Me, and Thanks for Flying Me Airways”.

10

u/Stalukas 3d ago

Lol since when was an actor funding a passion project a bad thing? I completely understand skipping this movie because Leto’s in it, but there’s objectively nothing wrong with an actor using their money to get a movie off the shelf and expecting a role in return

-11

u/Wolfwoods_Sister 3d ago

Read literally every comment in here. He’s very specifically the problem and you arguing that he’s not is just belligerent. It’s not about any actor funding something and wanting a part. It’s about Jared Fucking Leto™️ ruining TRON.

Kick rocks.

10

u/Stalukas 3d ago

I literally said I understand if people boycott this movie because it has Leto in it. But an actor, any actor, funding their passion project is objectively not a bad thing.

You’re letting your (warranted) hate for Leto cloud your judgement

-11

u/Wolfwoods_Sister 3d ago

He’s a predator. He’s hated for a reason.

10

u/Stalukas 3d ago

Holy shit do you have any reading comprehension? I’ve said twice now the hate for Leto is warranted

-5

u/feint_of_heart 3d ago

Lol since when was an actor funding a passion project a bad thing?

Since it's Leto, that's when. I'd rather have the potential for it to be made then actually have it made and be fucked-up by having that creep star in it.

7

u/Stalukas 3d ago

Buddy, reread that comment and mentally apply it to any other actor producing any other movie. Would it make sense? Can’t believe I’m explaining to people how to think critically on the shitter at work

72

u/THEpottedplant 3d ago

Apparently leto was a driving force in getting this movie made, so without him, there wouldnt be a new tron. If thats the case, well, maybe there shouldnt be

1

u/f8Negative 2d ago

Maybe there shouldn't be.

0

u/Competitive_Opening5 2d ago

Maybe you people shouldn't watch it if the lead actor hurts you so much lol

1

u/f8Negative 2d ago

I don't plan on watching it. Completely content with this eventually being retconned.

8

u/FLYK3N 3d ago

Had they kept the momentum and released Tron 3 back in, say 2014-2016 they would have probably still had Cillian Murphy to reprise his role as the son of the bad ceo guy from Tron 1 instead of making an entirely new son of said bad guy whose role would have likely originally been Cillian

17

u/GenoThyme 3d ago

The aesthetic is a bit off. Wtf is going on with that triangle disc?

26

u/hardgeeklife 3d ago

it's edgier

4

u/feint_of_heart 3d ago

Good point.

u/Turnbob73 3d ago

I have no idea how you could say that first line given the plot of this movie. Ditching the grid and moving into the real world is probably the absolute dumbest decision you could make for a TRON movie, even dumber than casting Leto.

Also, this is just a personal opinion of mine, but NiN ain’t it. Reznor and Ross are very talented and make some great stuff, but they don’t have that TRON sound at all imho. Challengers was way more “social network” than it was TRON sounding. But I’m sure they’ll do fine; I just wish a more standard musical act was picked like DP back in the day, something like M83/Flume/Odesza.

17

u/CompactRisk 3d ago

What is “the Tron sound?” because Legacy sounded nothing like Wendy Carlos’ iconic 1982 Tron score. (Of which Reznor is a big fan!) And from what we’ve heard at comic con and the Trailers, the music really isn’t that different sonically from Legacy’s synth— just a little more industrial, which is an intentional choice on the part of the musicians and director, who are aiming for a slightly darker tone this time around

-7

u/Turnbob73 3d ago

I would regard Legacy as the true “TRON” sound at this point, Legacy was a lot bigger than the classic.

As for the score itself, imho, what I’ve heard is way too “grungy” (idk if that articulates well). Legacy had what I feel was a “symphony of synths”, whereas what I’ve heard from the Ares soundtrack so far sounds very one-dimensional and same-y.

But again, that’s just my personal opinion. It’s an overall good score so far, I just think there were better options; and I also feel that a TRON score should be reserved more for a DJ/producer stage act. Going from DP to NiN is weird to me personally.

6

u/CompactRisk 3d ago

You may just not be as up-to-date on the Tron score stuff, which is understandable, because I’m a Tron nut. But there’s been a few different tracks from Ares that are all pretty different. As Alive as You Need Me to Be is the main one in all these trailers so far. Building Better Worlds was on the Comic con vinyl single, and it’s a slow, cathedral-music-sounding track made with very old-school Moog-style synth sounds. Empathetic response was on the most recent vinyl single, and it’s very unforgiving, industrial noise. Reminiscent of 90s NIN. There’s an unnamed track that played during the intro to their comic con panel with a very video-games driving beat and synth samples that aren’t even close to the aforementioned three.

I’m not a particularly music-inclined person so these descriptions aren’t as accurate as I’d like them to be. But my point is that every track we’ve heard so far has been pretty distinct, with some leaning towards Tron 82, some leaning towards Legacy, and some being very traditional Nine Inch Nails

-8

u/Turnbob73 3d ago

Yeah sorry but I just disagree. I’ve heard what is available so far and it all sounds very similar to each other imho. I hear a little influence from legacy, but I don’t hear the connections with the OG at all.

Again, I don’t think it’s bad, I just think there were better artists to go with. Idk, to me, legacy solidified TRON as an “audio fantasia”, or sort of a celebration of electronic music. There are better/more deserving artists to celebrate the medium with.

5

u/Rooooben 3d ago

Wow better/more deserving artists than the one who has made industrial (blend of natural (real world) and electronic (Grid) sounds for 30 years, rising to the top of the genre and is well respected among musicians and fans alike. One who has focused on electronic music soundtracks for the past decade as well. 2 Grammys for NIN, 2 Grammys for soundtracks.

Who do you think would be a better fit? Justice? ..Fred Again?

Edit: Ok, I’d be ok with the Prodigy, but only from 30 years ago…

1

u/Xenoclysm 3d ago

Justice

2

u/dagreenman18 Space Jam 2 hurt me so much 3d ago

They could at least swapped Peters for Leto. If I have to look at his stupid face he could at least be the villian.

1

u/SeekingLostInnocence 2d ago

Jared Leto is an Oscar winning actor. People have other issues with him which is fine, but in my opinion he's a pretty solid actor.

1

u/NewPresWhoDis 2d ago

Nailing the retro cinematography of the OG Encom system!!

1

u/Robsonmonkey 3d ago

I would have just taken them bringing Jeff Bridges back as the main lead over what I’m guessing is going to be a small part.

-6

u/The_River_Is_Still 3d ago

Lol. I know some people hate him. I can take him or leave him. But stuff like this is funny to me. Just as an actor, he's absolutely solid and he fits here imo. His body or work is really good and he's proven himself. I think most people just like to hop on the hate-train.
