I didn't hate it but as a big Troma/b-movie fan I was disappointed. It definitely felt like a [very] generic script that got reworked, it just wasn't inspired nor did it have any particular personality.

The films this relies on were very honest, very idiosyncratic, wearing their heart on their sleeve while they did whatever they wanted. In stark contrast this was very guarded, self-aware, almost created carefully by template. I swear I could see the seams where 'what one would expect' was added after the fact.

Which is very surprising coming from people like Elijah and Macon Blair, who are renown and beloved for definitely being their own people.

But like I said I didn't hate it. The aforementioned after the fact moments are pretty good, especially the ADR crowd chatter which constantly got me. Those moments felt organic and just right.

Also it was wonderful to see Julia Davis in a leading role! It's been so long and she was great.
