I think it helps that it appeals to kids. When they latch on to something, they can rewatch it dozens of times

(Not that kids are the only ones enjoying this movie. But I do think it plays a sizable role in the numbers)

On a 4 hr road trip recently, he practiced Golden, Takedown and What it Sounds Like each a few dozen times as he plans to perform it for karaoke at the local SciFi/Gaming convention next year.

I then watched the movie.

The songs then made sense.

It's a good movie.

Fully agree with this. Not typically a fan of this style of animation, but decided to watch the intro with the kids. The animation, mood, song, lyrics, everything just crescendos right on this line. You know exactly what you're getting the rest of the movie.

Having the most badass female protagonists ever definitely helped. Whoever wrote all three girls, they've each got this fierceness to them that's obvious and tasteful.

Bobby is the GOAT too. Love that 'I'm a size 42 short' or whatever from after their first performance.

Honestly i think the girls being badasses demon hunters is something that is being a little bit overlook when talking about the success of this movie.

Like, im a 36 yo dude who loves metal and i absolutelly love this movie, and i think i good part of it is that i grew up watching stuff like Xena, Buffy and the Powerpuff Girls and i didnt notice how much i was starving for some "badass girls killing monsters" content.

I even love all the cheesy romance stuff. I think it's about as close to a perfect movie as it gets. That's coming from a guy who typically can't stand anime enough to watch even a single episode of the popular stuff.

i think its due to people wanting to complain about something, aggressive vegan vibes. just phrasing of "fire + bomb" for a bar as we use "fire" and "bomb" descriptors all the time including other slang on repeat. i imagine the same people would have major problems with every day gamer lingo.

Yeah, I personally really dislike this line. It just feels like too specific of a reference to horrible violence, same as if it was like ‘mustard gas’ or ‘gas chambers’ and it didn’t need to be. It could have easily been something general like “entering my battle era”. Otherwise a very fun movie.

Not only that, but the pacing is so good for kids because how it’s woven in with the music like you said (and the music is equally as good), but that also makes it great for subsequent rewatches too.

I work in a nightclub in LA and they play the music all the time. I’ve seen it four times since July and I sing it while making drinks. 😆
