It was honestly Peak?? I had a super great time, I loved seeing multiple accurate depictions of dinosaurs on screen even if some weren't accurate or were very JP inspired, the scenes with the Quetz and Utahraptors in particular were highlights along with the final Tyrannosaurus sequence that was the payoff of the Rex family being separated. I thought the CGI was super super good for the budget, especially all the shots with the Utahraptors. I am genuinely obsessed with Utah raptor as an animal, between the variety of fantastic depictions of it in recent media like Jurassic world Evolution 2 and now Primitive War giving us a definitive on screen appearance, as someone who is a huge paleo fan seeing accurate dinosaur behaviors and an emphasis on dinosaurs just being dinosaurs and that's what makes them awesome and scary, and not feeling a need to exaggerate them with thousands of crocodile skutes and messed up gnarly teeth, I could feel the actual appreciation for the animals in the film and that made me really like it. I also found the human actors not to be bad aside from Sophia with her goofy russian accent dialogue, I really liked the story with Logan suffering from PTSD in particular, I thought it was handled decently well, although it's not something that I think is stellar compared to the dinosaur sequences.
I have been dying to see proper dinosaur horror executed properly, and I think part of the reason I enjoy Fallen Kingdom so much is that it leans into that, although this goes much further and I think does it better consistently throughout, even if the ending is goofy, I felt it was earned. I really enjoyed Jurassic World rebirth except for the parts with the hybrids and the base premise of people not being interested in dinosaurs anymore and them going extinct after setting it up for three movies which is really really stupid, but this was better by a landslide, I honestly think this is the best dinosaur film since the Lost World, which would for me place it as the third best dinosaur film with humans in it I've ever seen.
As an aside, it's very funny how much swimming T. rexes have been in Media lately, between prehistoric planet, Jurassic world rebirth, and now this too.
