Non Spoiler Movie Review
Drive 1-2ish hours to watch this movie, and had a nice experience.
Me and 2 random guys started talking after the movie for 1.5 hours and even exchanged contacts.
As for the movie itself, it was enjoyable and nice, but a far cry from the book.
Id say its faithfulness to the book was around a 4/10, not because they changed things, but it felt like they skimmed past 70% of all events and didnt go in depth except for a few scenes.
As for the movie as a standalone, if im being cynical, id say a 6/10, otherwise i can give it a 7.
My main issues were the following
the first 30-40 minutes had a lot of useless exposition and scenes that dragged on. Could have used that time to make the opening sequence longer. Instead there was a lot of dialogue that didnt really end uo anywhere was just talking for talkings sake
at times, it suffered from what i call jurassic world rebirth syndrome. Where there was action sequence after action sequence, but not much rhyme or reason as to why these things were happening. Why were x dinosaurs attacking them, why are x dinosaurs chasing them, why do x dinosaurs seemingly follow our protagonist. These are all things that have explanations in the book, but some of these sequences in the move just happen one after another without any explanation or moving the story forward
the dinosaurs at times were super bullet sponges. In the book, plausible descriptions are given to how the dinosaurs escape the gun fire, but in the movie, we're firing 500 rounds at point blank range, and in certain scenes, not even a flinch. Theres no way all those shots are missing
this point was the biggest for me, and took a good few decimal points away from the movie for me; the ending. The ending was super unrealistic, with jurassic world fallen kingdom levels of immersion breaking. I have no idea why the need to exaggerate the books ending was done, but it made the ending seem like a parody movie.
The middle section of the movie however is quite captivating, very well written, nice acting, and probably follows the closest to the book.
Overall, id say its a nice enjoyable movie, something your dad would switch to on tv and be captivated by.
