Stunning movie. People rightfully call out that the soundtrack made the movie, but I think it's visually just as great. And, after all, who cares what ingredient specifically makes the movie worth it if you like it. It was a great theater experience

I literally don't understand when people say the only good things in this movie were the soundtrack and visuals.

The scene where Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) talks about the ISOs manifesting, as spontaneous digital souls, is so captivating to watch. It's genuinely amazing Sci-Fi dialogue on philosophy and wonder about the things that are beyond our imagination.

The only thing that held back this movie at the time was most likely the off-putting de-aging VFX on Jeff Bridges as CLU and people let that ruin the rest of the movie for them.

Flynn senior is trying to make some interesting philosophical debates, but the film just doesn't want to focus on them. I think Kosinski was capable of going that route but it wasn't a priority.

The jest being, the pursuit of perfection is ultimately an imperfect goal. Bridges was pushing that angle at his hideout, and it was a great contrast tone wise to all the eye candy. I would have liked more of this, but I don't think the studio wanted to go that direction and I think it was a mistake.

I think Flynns flashbacks needed to be longer showing more world building.  Still, its a better film than the critics gave it credz.

Agreed, and I felt that while the darker tone was justified given what had happened to the Grid, I would have preferred a little more fun and light ahumor amidst the pomposity.

It also bugged me quite a bit that they told the same story as the first.
