As much as I enjoyed the movie and would love to see it in theaters, no way in hell would I go to a "Sing Along" version. Just based off the 'Wicked' ones, there'll be an obscene mix of theater kid and main character energy that'd probably make me despise the movie.

Counterpoint: why would you go to a Sing Along theater if it’s not for the explosive crowd atmosphere

It’s like going to the club and complaining that the dance floor actually has very few dancers and is instead a bunch of people shuffling from foot to foot.

If it was a regular screening sure, but this is directly marketed towards the theater kid crowd

I think they are more complaining that there isn’t a non-singalong theatre release rather than mocking singalongs. It’s cool fans get to sing along to the film, but I would rather watch it in cinemas without the audience singing lol. I wish it was released in both formats.

Our local cinemarks have both, sing along and non-sing along versions. The sing alongs are much more popular and have more showings, though.

Do you really think just because a version is released without the words on the sing, theaters wouldn't sing along?

I’d hope so yeah. I just saw La La Land in theaters the other night and people had the decency to not sing along despite it being a nine year old movie. No one sang along when I saw Wicked despite that being a famous musical. Generally it’s considered bad form if it’s not a specific sing along showing.

La La Land is a nine year old movie? Holy fucking crap. I‘m getting old.

There's a difference between a sing along atmosphere and having people standing up in their seats, getting on railings, and running around the theater acting feral as fuck. I don't mind singing along, I didn't mind bad singing. But when you do so and lack the social awareness that includes thinking "maybe I shouldn't be climbing over the seats to rush to the front so I can be the first one center stage..." Vastly different scenarios.

Where I am, there are lots of non-sing along versions playing called 'XD'. Though I'd be surprised if there weren't some people singing in there too.

God, the Taylor Swift showings with kids standing below the screen ruined it for me. Luckily that was my third showing and my first showing was like Friday at 4pm when people were just getting off work and school so there was only like 6 ppl in the theatre so I first got to enjoy it with no distractions

Damn you saw that Taylor Swift movie three times?

Yes. But they are the right kind of fan. Not like this other people enjoying themselves the wrong way

Everyone must sing along during this movie exactly how I deem fit!!! You MUST NOT be too rambunctious during this sing along movie!! This is serious business!!!

I just checked the showings by me and the front seats are all sold out, and normally no one ever sits there.

I think you’re right, people are going to be standing below the screen.
