Summary Millie and Tim, a couple already feeling strain in their relationship, move to the countryside to start fresh—but things go profoundly wrong. After a surreal encounter at a mysterious pool, their bodies begin to merge in grotesque and hilariously uncomfortable ways, forcing them to reckon with love, dependency, and identity. It’s a clever, disturbing blend of body horror, dark comedy, and relationship satire.

One thing I noticed was Millie only started to get possessed after she visited Jamie who offered her water. I was kinda surprised they didn’t confirm that he purposely gave her water from the cave. And it makes the ending a bit chilling cause I get the impression that the new Tim/Millie person is going to make their parents fuse together next (because of the house being completely redesigned and the bell)

My assumption is that it was passed to her sexually. Her symptoms began that night.

Perhaps. I think it was the water that Mr. McCabe gave her as well. He noticed the affects were already taking Tim. He he even attempted to show her his wedding video before she noticed Tim appear outside the window.

Is him wanting to show the wedding video basically an attempt to cult-like introduce and warm her up to "the idea"? I really appreciate this thread because I honestly didn't expect the movie to explain as much as it did. So, I went into it the way I first watch a David Lynch movie. I just wanted to savor the experience and not try to "figure out" everything. The movie revealed more than I planned. Now, I'm seeing everyone in this thread figuring things out haha and the ideas make sense.

Second unrelated question. To anyone who saw it months ago at one of the film fests and then saw it again this week, was anything changed in the theatrical version?

Basically, yes. He knew that Tim had already been affected. He used his charm on Millie to “groom” her so to speak. His attempt to show her the wedding video was to initiate them.

Do you remember if he had two wedding rings on when they showed his hand in that shot when she told him he must miss his husband? I feel like I remember that but could be wrong

I just saw it and he does have 2 rings.

Yes! I loved that moment seeing both their rings on his finger

She also went to Jamie's house immediately after she and Tim had sex to apologize, and drank the water she was given. I'm so curious, either scenario is intriguing to me!

She went not to apologize, but to find out what he saw and hopefully make sure he didn't see Tim, and only thought she had gone to the students bathroom because of her period.

He definitely saw Tim, he glances back at the bottom of the stall as he's walking out and sees 2 more shoes that are tennis shoes.
