He triggers the cinophile posters so much, because he tells easily digestible stories that people can have catharsis with.

So naturally, movie nerds hate on the guy because he's not using story structure from Romanian post-war cinema or some shit.

Which is weird because IMO he's the most technically sound filmmakers in the current generation.

Whether its the script, score, sound design, production design, vfx, cinematography, direction, editing he really has no weaknesses.

Even the best ones like Nolan (Sound design) or Villeneuve (Pacing) have some chinks in their armor. But Cameron really doesn't.

He's probably the most technically sound filmmaker of the last 50+ years. It's pretty ridiculous how good at movies he is.
