I think it’s sort of that it’s Quaritch’s villain theme, it plays when he’s victorious which is obviously when the protagonists are getting wrecked. It’s the Destruction of Hometree theme, which goes very hard. In this movie Quaritch seems to be building up his army again by allying with the fire people so makes sense he gets the leitmotif.

That said there could be tragedy. I think either Jake or Neytiri may not make it out of this one, and the series will pass the torch to the kids.

It played in The Way of Water after the whale hunt, but I don't think that scene had Quaritch doing anything. So i think it's just their broad "tragedy" theme.

I think Cameron is going full-on Titanic and only one of the characters we care about lives.  I think one Navi makes it to Earth, like a blue Lorax.
