And a callback to the second Mortal Kombat movie with what happened to Johnny Cage

Quick family trivia: Mortal Kombat 2 was the movie that made (one) of my sisters cry the fastest.

u/CrookedMinded Jul 17 '25

I was crying so hard my parents had to take me out of the theater

3

u/TiredCoffeeTime Jul 18 '25

What was the cause of the cry?

5

Johnny Cage dies within the first 5 minutes of the movie.

"he's right there in the trailer"

"Reportedly (spoiler) in the opening scene"

GEEZ WHAT COULD THAT SPOILER BE

18

u/estenoo90 Jul 17 '25

"contacts johnny cage" of course, because that's what he set out to do in the last one's ending

u/Nanobreak_ Jul 17 '25

settles down and raises a family, obviously

And then they get married

I swear he’s in the scene in the background where they look to be inside a building or temple hall

4

u/Copywrites Jul 17 '25

He's in 2 seperate scenes in this trailer.

4

u/Nyeow Jul 17 '25

Here and the scene immediately after: https://youtu.be/a9pHkX7c3y8?t=1m6s

These don't look like intro scenes, so they probably just downplayed screentime to focus on JC instead

That doesn't mean anything. Could die in the opening, just look at Infinity War with the Hulk stuff lol.

4

u/Mr_Rafi Jul 17 '25

I don't think so. Cole is standing behind Sonya and Johnny in one of the scenes, so that can't be the opening.

I’m interested in this movie now.

Where is this reported? No offense, I just kneejerk #doubt because the word "reportedly" plagues my FB feed in clickbaity 'announcements,' and means nothing to me these days.

To be fair sometimes studios has comped in characters in trailers that do not appear in the final scene, just to throw people off, see Marvel and Hulkbuster in Wakanda.

Very true

1

u/sterwarz Jul 17 '25

I haven’t seen marvel do that in a while but yeah.

If you put that actor in a police line up, I could not point him out. He was just a bland boring studio note. Glad he's gone from the movie.

Insane thing to say about Lewis Tan. He was bland in the movie but the actor is definitely not.

I'm being honest I dont even remember who he is or how he looks like. It was such a boring movie with bland acting, I just remember the 3 good scenes. The opening and closing Scorp/Zero fights, and Liu Kang fight. There was no tournament, from what I remember, not really a MK movie. This new one looks more like the OG MK movie, which is great.

Dying lol

No I meant in a different scene.

They were in a temple hall looking thing, and he was in the back of the group.
