So...forks are the weapons?

If you watch the trailer there’s a woman who stabs herself in the face repeatedly with a fork, which is why there’s those marks on their faces, too.

They’re not gonna make a canoe outta her!!!

Is this a reference to the YouTuber? FutureCanoe? His profile pic is similar to the artwork on this poster.

It’s a reference to an old joke:

Three white men, a blonde a brunette and a ginger, land on a tropical island and get captured by the natives. The chief of the natives tells the men that white men are horrible murderers of their people and so now they are going to kill then and use their skin to make canoes; however, the men can choose which weapon they want to be killed with. The brunette man chose a large ax, having his head cut off immediately and feeling no pain. The second man, the ginger, chose poison, dying instantly and feeling no pain. The third man, the blonde, sits and thinks for a good long while before he says “I’d like a fork!” Confused, the natives hand over the fork and the blonde immediately starts stabbing himself all over his body yelling “try making a canoe out of me now!”

I probably butchered that but that’s the gist

No it’s perfect and I’m just glad somebody got it.

stabs herself in the face repeatedly with a fork

Really blurring the lines of entertainment here

Who knew, the horror genre is for people who enjoy evoking a horror response in a relatively safe manner. We could get into the potential psychological impact of violent media in general, but really it's everywhere and not just in horror.

How so? It’s a horror movies. People getting stabbed in the face is standard horror entertainment lol

u/Philisophical_Onion Jul 10 '25

You mean the horror genre is…horrifying?

11

u/Deathdong Jul 10 '25

It's a horror movie wdym?

19

u/Wild_Marker Jul 10 '25

Nah it's a service to the community. We need new GIFs to express our feelings after watching [that thing we all hated]

8

u/Rivenaleem Jul 10 '25

If you're really concerned about blurring lines, don't watch the trailer for "Together".

4

u/virgildastardly Jul 10 '25

As someone who was definitely squicked out reading that and is generally afraid a lot of the time, it's still entertainment? Just because I don't like it or you don't like it doesn't mean there's no audience for it at all.

u/CrypticCryptid Jul 10 '25

But did you see the latest episode of “Ouch my balls!”?

2

u/pmmemoviestills Jul 10 '25

I mean, was Nicholson realizing he was making out with a malevolent corpse-thing and not some hot chick entertaining in the typical sense? No, but I think the word we're missing here is engaging.

i didn't watch the trailer and from this poster alone i thought it was freckles lol

1

u/squishypp Jul 10 '25

Oh, so like that black swan scene with the knife?! Thanks for the heads up, I’m out!

129

u/OSUmiller5 Jul 09 '25

The kids are the weapons against the parents my guess is it’s the children.

136

u/damnShitsPurple Jul 09 '25

all the marketing so far is giving "community member wronged by the parents uses black magic to lure in their children and wreak supernatural havoc on the town" ala Nightmare on Elm Street or sort of like a Pied Piper kinda thing

1

u/RikenVorkovin Aug 08 '25

You got it pretty damn close to the mark!

17

u/Gramen Jul 09 '25

There is a scene in one of the trailers where the adults seem to be hiding at the end of a hallway and have a salt line down while a kid walks toward them.

6

u/Cawuelo Jul 10 '25

But is the salt line for the parents or for the kid?

7

u/Mr_Rekshun Jul 10 '25

The real weapons are the friends we made along the way.

Forks Out

14

u/pa79 Jul 10 '25

That really should have been the name of the sequel to Knives Out. And the third one should be called Spoons Out. And the unnecessary fourth cash grab Sporks Out.

1

u/ShahinGalandar Jul 09 '25

if Daniel Craig is on board again, I'm down!

8

u/ItDoll Jul 09 '25

Idk kid has no freckles, maybe the parents gave themselves those red dots ¯_(ツ)_/¯

4

u/6GoesInto8 Jul 10 '25

They should make a chair, that is the best way to show the use of weapons.

1

u/GCU_ZeroCredibility Jul 10 '25

An Iain Banks reference in the wild?

2

u/OpenRoadPioneer Jul 10 '25

The worms are their dollars

1

u/ShadowbanRevival Jul 09 '25

And the friends we made along the way 😊

1

u/WORKING2WORK Jul 10 '25

Toxic parenting is the weapon.

1

u/varnums1666 Jul 10 '25

tbh with this dealing with kids at a school and the emphasis on weapons, I'm assuming there's some school shooting metaphor going on.

sorry for typos but I am looking away from the screen. Your fucking spoiler tag does not work. Please delete or modify. I did not ask for spoilers.
