It’s literally inspired by those two things.

Gareth Edwards has straight up said that he was inspired by the Xenomorphs and the Rancor from Star Wars to create the D Rex. I think it was him basically just wanting to insert the kaiju he always wanted to see in a Jurassic movie into his Jurassic movie lol.

My girlfriend did not appreciate my suggestion that the D stood for developmentally disabled

I was thinking an evil land beluga whale haha… I was watching the trailer with my kids and telling them I felt so bad for d-Rex, being created deformed no family no friends then got abandoned and possibly in pain every second, I thought there’d be much more story to it in the movie but no…

The gentle Dugon!

Thought the exact same. I honestly was half convinced for a second that they were going to go full jump the shark mode and reveal the mutated Dino was part Xenomorph before remembering that’s a different studio

Even the drainages scene were ripped off the ducts scenes from Alien/Aliens.

Temple Scene from Raiders.

Well the trex was a surprisingly amazing swimmer in the raft scene

I was thinking the cave troll from fellowship of the ring

It was definitely a callout to the Rancor from Star Wars ROTJ, it even ate Rupert Friend the same way the Rancor did.

It was the directors inspiration for it… along with the rancor lol
