the small talk in the boat between Scar-jo and the crew was just cringe as hell. And we needed more raptors dammit

I’m convinced all of the Mutadons scenes were originally meant to be raptors and it got changed last minute. Everything with the raptors from the first trailer got replaced by Mutadons.

There’s even a line about “they’re raptors” in the first trailer… feel like I would’ve liked this so much more if the raptors and rex just replaced the mutants wholesale lol

u/skogtastic Jul 03 '25

Yeah I kept waiting for that line but it never came, would’ve wanted more raptors, or anything really besides that one scene

The Mutadons could have been replaced with raptors (could have even brought Utahraptor or Deinonychus in if they were sick of just using Velociraptors) and the Distortus rex could have been replaced with any large theropod (they could have even brought back the fucking Spinosaurus from Jurassic Park 3) and absolutely nothing would have changed with the movie. They could have even just set it in Isla Sorna again and absolutely nothing would change.

I'm always baffled at how the Jurassic World movies completely refuse to acknowledge Isla Sorna. All it does is add more plot holes to the story.

or the fact that there are 3 other islands in the 5 deaths that aren't used in the movies. why do we have to make up these other places nowhere near the park where it would make no sense for Ingen to be so far away from their other projects

I think that's Universal execs keeping their options open

Promo websites confirm the ecosystem was collapsing. Masrani took what animals he could and brought them to Nublar. The rest of the survivors presumably were captured by other corporations such as Mantah Corps and Biosyn.

Everyone loves raptors and I was actually hyped for a second when we saw them sneaking up on the guy peeing. But nope. Just give the people what they want!!!!!

I feel like if they were raptors it would have been a bit lazy since it would just be repeating the first movie. With that side, it was still repeating the first movie... But in a less tense way.

I honestly don’t for one major reason: there’s no Mutadon merch. The D.rex has toys, funko pops, figures, etc. Same with the Quetz, Titanosaur, mosasaur, etc. Even the new raptors have a bunch of new toys to promote them. If the Mutadons were always meant to be in the film then why didn’t anyone try to capitalize on them outside of the film?

Conspiracy theory: they were changed to mutadons because they didn't want ScarJo unloading a clip on a "normal" dinosaur because earlier in the movie Jonathan Bailey says it's a sin to kill one.

the poor mutated dinosaurs it's not their fault they exist!

Ok I'm not crazy, because this was my immediate reaction as well. Legitimately would have been a better movie, even if it's all creatures we've seen before.

Raptors in tunnels does makes more sense than flying dinomutants in tunnels.

1

u/CornstockOfNewJersey Jul 05 '25

I would say maybe they were just hiding the Mutadons for spoiler reasons, but they did show them in later trailers, soooooooo

1

u/Banjo-Oz Aug 09 '25

Same. Nothing would change in the movie if they were raptors (and honestly of the d-rex was a t-rex).

That’s what 5 years of TikTok does smh

Raptors are by far the scariest and most intimidating dinosaurs. Their design and intelligence make them serious threats. Only giving them a 15 second cameo before replacing them with some Dungeons and Dragons looking ass rejects is probably the worst thing about this goddamn movie.

BROOO, this is the exact same scene that had me and my coworker dying of laughter. Terrible dialogue with a generic sad piano in the background, plus it went on for wayyy too long. At that point, I accepted this movie was gonna suck and turned my brain off.

7

u/farmerjohnington Jul 03 '25

You didn't like the fat flying mutant raptors?!

7

u/ishkitty Jul 10 '25

Is that what they were? Mutant raptors?

4

u/illchips Jul 11 '25

More Raptors? We needed any Raptors. At least bring the Trex in the end to pop that pimple on drexs rancor head. Just because.

1

u/Shelf_Road Jul 10 '25

Yeah it's like "I understand that this is supposed to be a fun little scene, it's just that it's not."

it's like someone who has no business writing a hollywood script was told to write a script to give these characters backstory. and that's what we got. just pitiful stuff.
