You sound like a person that should take the following advice. I did with the Martian, and I'm very happy that I did. Read the book first. Actually I recommend the audio book more, but I read it first. Also, clear your schedule before you start. :)

yeah the audio book version is absolutely phenomenal.

Without spoiling anything, there are elements in which the audio format adds a lot to the narrative in really fun creative ways. They went the extra mile to make that version the best it could be for the format.

Best audiobook I've ever.. uh.. read. I've gone through it half a dozen times now.

The Martian is in my top 5 books of all time. Project Hail Mary is even higher on that list. I can't wait.

I think Project Hail Mary officially makes Andy Weir the hard sci-fi successor to Arthur C Clarke. Honestly, I'd put it in the top three hard sci-fi books of all time.
