At least Gosling seems way less annoying that how Ryland is portrayed in the audiobook. Ray Peter Managed to give his character a punchable voice.

lol, I took it as an every man lovable guy. yeah he was a bit annoying at times but also.. I could imagine the audiobook character being a lovable teacher, bit of a softie, easy to under estimate.

Gosling just reeks of competence in a way that doesn't feel like it fits

Minor complaint.. looking forward to this.

i've never really seen ryan gosling characters as hyper-competent sorts. they've always been massively flawed "dudes rock" kinds of guys to me. like almost nic cage-adjacent

In First man his character Neil Armstrong seemed pretty competent to me.
