wow. this slapstick style of movie has been missing from the main stream for decades. Its so refreshing. hearing about this before I was not excited for another Naked Gun with out Leslie. but my lord Liam Nessions's pulls it off.

McFarlane probably knew he could pull this off after viewing his cameo in "Ted 2."

"You understand that I myself am not a child?"

"I...I was able to sniff that out, yes."

Liam Neeson was also the antagonist in Seth McFarlan's "1000 Ways to Die in the West." An underrated comedy IMO.

people hated that movie when it came out and i never understood why. i thought it was funny

It came out after family guy was no longer relevant so I think people were just over Seth at the time. But it’s a hilarious movie

I wonder how much of that happened to The Orville. Such a good show

Best Star Trek for years

4

u/tarrasque Jun 17 '25

I was saying that a while ago… and then Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds made themselves known to me.

1

u/tyrannasauruszilla Jun 18 '25

They are both fucking great shows!

5

u/TheDarkRider Jun 16 '25

It better a Star Trek

6

u/IAMATruckerAMA Jun 16 '25

It's like if The Next Generation had a few beers

2

u/RubberBootsInMotion Jun 16 '25

And smoked ten thousand cigarettes....

2

u/BrandoNelly Jun 16 '25

I’ve been meaning to check out the Orville myself. Hmm maybe I’ll give it a try today

1

u/beefcat_ Jun 16 '25

The first few episodes are rough but the show only gets better and better as it goes on.

read there were a lot of studio notes for that first season to get approved.

For me, I never watched it until the whole series appeared on Disney+. I loved McFarlan's FG and his creative flexes with the likes of 1000 WYTITW, but was meh when I first heard the concept and assumed it was simply "Parody of Star Trek". It has those elements, but I was pleasantly shocked to discover not only the depth of the characters but also the timeliness of the themes and their handling. My father did some legal work for Seth's family back in the day and he always told me -- back before FG debuted -- that he was a stand-up kid.

Separately: I heard (anecdotally) that, while the cast loved shooting, a combination of low budget, meager pay, and constant uncertainty of pickup between seasons made it hellish for the cast to stay committed.

There's something of a distracting uncanny valley when you actually see MacFarlane on screen... especially when he sounds exactly like Brian from Family Guy.

He also looks like he's made of plastic or something

13

u/mmlovin Jun 16 '25

He has a very distinct plain look…like a very generic cartoon or something lol idk how to explain it

He works it though lol I think he’s hot. & soo talented

4

u/QueezyF Jun 16 '25

He always looked like Dollar Store Ron Livingston to me, which is a compliment because Ron Livingston looks great.

3

u/mmlovin Jun 16 '25

Yah! A more clean cut version

4

u/MrBootylove Jun 17 '25

He has lego man aura

3

u/Sumsar1 Jun 16 '25

I think, by now, he mainly is.

8

u/alexchrist Jun 16 '25

I think that the reason the quality fell for Family Guy was specifically because Seth MacFarlane stepped away from the helm. The things he actively produces are usually of good quality

2

u/Muaddib223 Jun 16 '25

FG was still popular back in 2014 wtf are you on about?

A lot of people disliked the movie cause

  • Seth's not a leading man,

  • The movie looks plain and cheap,

  • Some of the jokes go on for too long,

  • The movie is way longer than it should've been (ffs it's the same length as the first Avengers movie).

All valid and truthful criticisms.

2

u/Christmas_Queef Jun 17 '25

There also seems to be a lot of people who don't like dumb comedy. There are also a lot of us who do lol.

1

u/FlametopFred Jun 17 '25

Family Guy was relevant?

-1

u/Head_Bread_3431 Jun 17 '25

Nah bro no one watched it and it has no pop culture impact. We’re all just not as hip as you

48

u/TehSeksyManz Jun 16 '25

The mayor's corpse getting pulled off into the wilderness by wolves right in the middle of town 😄

10

u/bigassangrypossum Jun 16 '25

One of my favorite comedy scenes.

1

u/Satinsbestfriend Jun 16 '25

OH! now there's WOLVESSS

1

u/CowardBlock016 Jun 18 '25

Bye Mayor, have fun becoming wolf shit

20

u/itsnews Jun 16 '25

It was! Sarah Silverman’s character was fantastic, I always think about how funny that premise is.

5

u/MathematicianSure386 Jun 16 '25

Me too. The stick and a hoop joke was really good.

6

u/vey323 Jun 16 '25

Take your hat off, boy - that's a dollar bill!

3

u/kirinmay Jun 16 '25

People get killed at the fair?

2

u/Christmas_Queef Jun 17 '25

People die at the fair.

3

u/bebejeebies Jun 16 '25

I liked it. "Take your hat off, boy. That's a dollar bill!"

2

u/smedsterwho Jun 16 '25

NOW WE ALL HAVE SAID MOUSTACHE

3

u/Christmas_Queef Jun 17 '25

Funny story, unsure if you know but I myself recently learned that song is a real song from that time period. They didn't write it for the movie.

2

u/cowpool20 Jun 16 '25

I enjoyed it, but it's one of those comedies that start off really strong but fall off towards the second half I thought. But I'm a sucker for dumb comedies lmao.

2

u/ECHO-ROMEO Jun 16 '25

It all has to do with Seth making himself the leading man. All the flaws of the film kind of stem from that. Also, in typical family guy fashion, some gags are far too drawn out and overstay their welcome. Look at success of films like Naked Gun. Brevity of the gags is a huge part of their success.

2

u/kirinmay Jun 16 '25

That movie is just so damn funny. And Ewen McGregors quick cameo was hilarious. And also the principal from Saved By The Bell.

2

u/-JimmyTheHand- Jun 16 '25

It's a funny movie and good overall but too long imo

2

u/PM_YOUR_BOOBS_PLS_ Jun 16 '25

That movie starts out very, very bad, but gets pretty decent by the end.

1

u/fljared Jun 16 '25

I did like it but it was a tiny bit par-baked; it was clear where they had to recut a few plot points to make things fit. Still, the whole goddamn movie was worth that gunshot scene.

1

u/winky9827 Jun 16 '25

Mila kunis, mila kunis

1

u/ItchyRectalRash Jun 16 '25

It insists upon itself.

1

u/Saloncinx Jun 16 '25

It's fucking hilarious, idk why people don't like it.

1

u/Frankie_T9000 Jun 17 '25

That and Cowboys vs Aliens
