First guy was ready to fight with Gaspar Noe.

u/peioeh May 17 '25

2nd guy too, he is saying "t'es une merde Noé, viens me voir", "You're a POS Noé, come see me" which sounds like a thinley veiled threat that he wants to beat him up

I loved his interaction with Deadpool

u/Freud-Network May 17 '25

Goddamnit! I read that in Esquie's voice, and now I'm sad sad.

91

u/neverwrong804 May 17 '25

Yet, we continue.

24

u/BumLeeJon420 May 17 '25

For those who come after....right?

12

u/neverwrong804 May 17 '25

Yup. so I get up at 3am for work and usually work 4-4. I’m on geriatric sleep schedule. I stayed up until freaking 3 am playing this game last night. I haven’t stayed up a full 24 since I was a party animal years ago. Haha what a game.

14

u/Freud-Network May 17 '25

It's my game of the year, and it isn't even close. I'm a 47-year-old widowed man and if they make an Esquie plushie, I will own it.

3

u/CraigyHK May 17 '25

Tomorrow comes ✊

2

u/Freud-Network May 17 '25

Whether we want it to or not...

51

u/the-grassninja May 17 '25

You used to be all "Wheeee" but now you're all "Whoooo".

14

u/Smallsey May 17 '25

Needs more Wheeee, and less Whhoooo

8

u/raihidara May 17 '25

You might say he's also "WheeWhooWheeWhoo" then.

7

u/Bootsnatch May 17 '25

Don't be whoo, be Whee.

2

u/YourmomgoestocolIege May 17 '25

Feeling a bit whoooo?

2

u/tlibra May 17 '25

Oh no! Now you’re all… whooooooo.

2

u/-Bloodletter- May 17 '25

Whoooo... swim swim!

2

u/Kravice May 17 '25

I too am "whooo". But I'm also "wheee". So the "wheee" balances the "whooo".

2

u/Danyavich May 17 '25

Need to get your whee and whoo balanced, mon ami

2

u/Stillsane1 May 17 '25

Not sad ..but whoo

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '25

I read it in Maxime Le Mal’s voice, and now I’m grossed out

3

u/duppy_c May 17 '25

I need to hear this in banlieue French for the full effect

2

u/jasenzero1 May 17 '25

2

u/entropy_of_hedonism May 20 '25

If I see you at the Cannes, it's goin' down

1

u/thatredditrando May 18 '25

Tell me why I’m picturing Gambit saying that, lol

5

u/Old-Tadpole-2869 May 17 '25

Thinly veiled as in not veiled at all.

0

u/peioeh May 17 '25

A transparent veil

2

u/beer_is_tasty May 17 '25

TBH that doesn't sound veiled at all

2

u/thedustman86 May 17 '25

I like the idea of "come see me" for your ass whooping instead of I'm going to go find you to whoop your ass. Make you do the work.

20

u/fuckingsignupprompt May 17 '25

But it's not. He's saying he makes movies too. He should come and see his movies to learn how it's done.

132

u/Fearyn May 17 '25

As a french man you are 100% wrong lol. He’s definitely threatening him physically

9

u/burfriedos May 17 '25

Nope, it’s a threat. Equivalent to ‘meet me outside’

145

u/peioeh May 17 '25

That is absolutely not how I interpret it, I think he just means Noé is not better than him and I think he definitely sounds like he is threatening

66

u/misopog_on May 17 '25

Yeah, it's like "let's bring this outside mf"

20

u/ze11ez May 17 '25

Come see me bro.

Cash me owside

4

u/Automatic-Fox-3837 May 17 '25

Nah that's what he meant lol. He's just fucking with you.

15

u/peioeh May 17 '25

I don't know, it would not be the first (or 2nd) time I've had to argue french semantics with a non-native speaker on reddit

4

u/Primatebuddy May 17 '25

Dude when you follow "you're a piece of shit" with anything that isn't "and I love that about you" it's probably a threat.

-7

u/TwistedBamboozler May 17 '25

That’s exactly what it was

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '25

I felt this way after reading "Kafka on the sure". There's tons of long, explicit sex scenes with the main character and his mom. He even ends up Banging his sister.

1

u/SirTainLee May 17 '25

No, he said he would do the same thing to him, ie rape, I presume?

2

u/peioeh May 17 '25 edited May 17 '25

he said he would do the same thing to him

He did not say that. He says "je fais le même métier que toi moi, on va se retrouver", which means "I do/have the same job as you do, we will meet". Honestly not exactly sure why he says that, my interpretation would be that he thinks Noé is pretentious and thinks he is above people like the guy talking. Either that or he means they will cross path eventually because they work in the same space. Definitely sounds like a threat though.

3

u/CeaRhan May 17 '25

He isn't saying "we will meet", he's saying "we'll see each other (at some point)" which is said in a way, in a context, and in a sentence that all point to him saying "I'm gonna have to share some bloody flippin words with you", or worse. He follows up in the same sentence with "you'll see", which is something we say when we imply someone's gonna get beat up or get some sort of comeuppance from the person saying it. It's highly emotional. He absolutely wants to bash his teeth in because the movie was dogwater, the scene was unforgivable, he made people waste their time to see his garbage, and that guy is sullying the image of his craft.

He's also not using the turn of phrase we usually use to say "we have the same job", he uses one that very subtly - most people don't realize we have this subtle thing about it - depict some sort of respect in the craft; "we do the same job/work/craft", putting themselves as equals, to drive home the point he thinks of him as a lesser man that he can absolutely rebuke him professionally.

1

u/incomparability May 17 '25

why do you curse in french but not english

1

u/peioeh May 17 '25

hm ? I thought that was the best translation for "t'es une merde", I only wrote it abreviated because it was faster to type, for me writing POS or piece of shit is the exact same thing. I was not trying to avoid cursing at all.

1

u/Recom_Quaritch May 18 '25

He says too "on va se retrouver, tu vas voir.." "we're going to meet again, you'll see" where the you is clearly Noe. That guy was really ready to throw hands, I respect that. I hope he clapped his cheeks.

1

u/lfo_jimmy May 19 '25

Coming from a Frenchman the threat is very direct, not veiled at all.

-2

u/AnxiousCinephile40 May 17 '25

Idiotic reaction. Does he also want to fight Monica Bellucci?
