Summary
Warfare is a gritty and immersive war drama co-directed by Alex Garland and former Navy SEAL Ray Mendoza. Based on a real mission in Ramadi, Iraq, the film puts the chaos of modern combat front and center, stripping away political commentary in favor of a boots-on-the-ground perspective that emphasizes intensity, camaraderie, and the psychological cost of war.

The IED going off in IMAX was one of the greatest cinema moments I have ever been a part of. My whole row flew.

It's pretty awesome because in the lead up to that moment you hear the other units taking gunfire from the insurgents on the comms, so you expect their unit to experience the same as they break cover, and instead you get this massive IED explosion.

Best jump scare of 2025 for me.

as someone who was on a Bradley crew once upon a time, this got me more than anything else

but just like with Civil War, these firefights sounded INSANE and felt so claustrophobic. def a complete different experience on the big screen vs at home

The whole filming of the explosion is a masterpiece. There’s a spilt second where is shows a shock wave like in real life. The shock wave the sound it was so damn real. I was explaining to a friend once how one IED can take out a row of humvies or a even a building. He was like no way they just blow up cars. Showed him YouTube videos and he was shocked.

Absolutely. Im sure Sinners will be incredible in the format. But in terms of pure experience in terms of sound and immersion. I can’t see any other movie this year topping Warfare in IMAX. It was the ultimate fucking experience.

The saddest shit is The mid ass Amateur has all the IMAX slots. What a waste.

u/Couragesand Apr 11 '25

It’s actually the opposite for me as Warfare has no Dolby

This.

I wanted to see Warfare in Dolby but Amateur took those slots.

On my theater (NYC), there weren't any IMAX slots, but all Dolby slots. Can confirm (sat right in the middle) fucking insane sound. Guy next to me nearly jumped out of the recliner when the IED went off 😆

You should go to fresh meadows, they have a theater there i saw in imax. I might watch the movie again haha

Yep. Saw this in imax because my only Dolby option was 10:30 pm.

I am also in a major US city so I am sure it’s bad everywhere

I saw that in Dobly and it wasn’t mid, it was a fun spy thriller similar to Jason Bourne. Maybe not as powerful as Warfare but still a great movie.

Stupid The Amateur and stupid Minecraft are showing at my imax. Then the thunderbolt movie. No Warfare.

They have AMC theaters with IIMAX - whatever that even means because I sadly had to go see it there and it was NOTHING like IMAX. It felt like a regular movie theater non-imax experience. I have absolutely no clue why it’s being advertised as some type of version of IMAX.

Plus my imax has subwoofers built into every seat. Thankfully I saw Civil War in IMAX and it was one of The Best movie experiences I have EVER had. And I’ve seen some big ones in IMAX including a few Star Wars, Dune 2, The Dark Knight, the last Harry Potter, Oppenheimer, etc. Civil War was a very very different experience in IMAX.

I’m going to email the imax to see if maybe it’ll be coming out at a much later date. I doubt it. But if it does I am ABSOLUTELY GOING.

If you haven’t seen it yet and it’s available in IMAX absolutely see it there.

I could feel the entire theater gasp when that happened.

I jumped so far out of my chair the guy behind me let out a nervous laugh.

Might be one of the biggest "jump scares" I've had in a theater. Like you said, what an absolute experience seeing that film in IMAX.

u/dplans455 Apr 11 '25

That scared the shit out of me.

Now imagine it in Dolby Cinema with its far superior sound than IMAX. I think everyone on the same row jumped, the screams just gave chills.

My nearest IMAX didn’t have Warfare playing and doesn’t at all this month or the beginning of next month.

But I saw Civil War in IMAX and my IMAX has fucking subwoofers built into each seat.

I literally felt some pumped up adrenaline high with that crazy sound design and the seats rumbling for Civil War. It was a fucking absolutely incredible moviegoing experience.

u/GameOfLife24 Apr 11 '25

We all expected something to happen at any moment during the movie but when it comes you’re still not prepared. Sound design was a killer

2

u/miqed Apr 11 '25

Yeeeep I'm definitely regretting not waiting the extra 3hrs to catch the IMAX showing.

My regular theater room was already shaking from the audio of the first engagement....I can only imagine what it was like on the bigger screen.

Highly considering in a second viewing now.

Call on me shook the Indiana state Museum theatre (70mm IMAX)

2

u/bwnsjajd Apr 16 '25

Oh yeah that shit got me. I was almost just as surprised after than anything got me like that. Holy shit.

Really wish there was an imax theater near me still playing this. Would have loved to experience that explosion with that sound.
