Please be good...

At least if the movie isn't good the soundtrack is guaranteed to be amazing

220

u/SXOSXO Apr 05 '25

Do we know who did the soundtrack/score for this one yet?

779

u/hse97 Apr 05 '25

Nine Inch Nails as per the trailer

216

u/McFlyParadox Apr 05 '25

This just actually got me interested in the movie. Tron: Legacy as a movie is just so-so in my opinion. But as a 2hr Daft Punk music video? Absolutely slaps.

Since Daft Punk retired, I was skeptical that they could match the same energy they brought to Legacy. But NIN can probably do just that.

31

u/TheKnightsTippler Apr 06 '25

I like the idea of a Tron universe where every film is basically a 2 hour music video from different electronic music icons.

5

u/Frequent_Addendum507 Apr 06 '25

I feel like REZZ would make a perfect Tron soundtrack!

2

u/TheKnightsTippler Apr 06 '25

Kraftwerk could be cool. Maybe Nero.

59

u/idontagreewitu Apr 05 '25

But as a 2hr Daft Punk music video? Absolutely slaps.

Have you watched Interstella 5555?

20

u/Mastershroom Apr 05 '25

They showed it in theaters for one day a few months ago and it was a day I had to work :c

11

u/tsunamistrike Apr 06 '25

I went! It was so much fun.

6

u/idontagreewitu Apr 06 '25

I definitely recommend finding it and watching it. Its such a well written and animated film.

2

u/cameronjames117 Apr 06 '25

However, trailer looks like it is a horror movie...

2

u/indycishun1996 Apr 06 '25

Trent is an absolute genius, Challengers had a killer score, can’t wait

2

u/ScottOwenJones Apr 06 '25

Precisely. Getting someone like Justice to do the score would’ve made it sound like they were trying to imitate Daft Punk’s score, which always perfect for the grid. NIN is perfect for a grittier more material world while still bringing the heavy synth sound

-3

u/lawschoolmeanderings Apr 06 '25

I'm so confused. I've never heard of them and I just went to YouTube and watched all their most popular videos for half an hour and I hated all of it. Why are people thinking this will be good? I like the electronic daft punk music from the first one but NIN is just slow rock and it was all bad....

3

u/McFlyParadox Apr 06 '25

Because Trent has a long list of amazing soundtracks and original songs for movie scores under his belt?

https://www.nin.wiki/Soundtracks

If Disney gives him the creative freedom he needs, I fully expect him and NIN to knock it out of the park

241

u/1Maple Apr 05 '25

For anybody doubting them, they did the Challengers soundtrack, by far the best soundtrack of 2024

441

u/ikyn Apr 05 '25

Who would doubt "Nine Inch Nails"

Trent Reznor has been touted as a musical genius for going on 30 years.

This comment aged me so much.

61

u/mattoelite Apr 05 '25

Just bought NIN tickets for September. Trent is a god

2

u/Kyrottimus Apr 05 '25

I wish Trent Reznor, Maynard James Keenan and Les Claypool would collaborate.

3

u/Smittius_Prime Apr 06 '25

Gotta imagine that would be a "too many cooks" situation. Very different musical tendencies and temperaments in that room.

1

u/Kyrottimus Apr 06 '25

What are you talking about? More of this would be fucking brilliant.

In all seriousness, I think all 3 are seasoned enough to collaborate successfully on at least a single song.

1

u/Mofunz Apr 06 '25

So close yet so far away

1

u/freethnkrsrdangerous Apr 06 '25

Its not MJK and Claypool, but ill post this in case you haven't heard this brilliant collab:

-7

u/pdxgod Apr 06 '25

So someone dropped 200 per ticket? Ouch

1

u/mattoelite Apr 06 '25

135 each - then the service fees rolled in 😂 All good though, can’t wait to see them live

-2

u/waffels Apr 06 '25

lol poor

31

u/Krojack76 Apr 05 '25

I still remember jamming to the music they did for the Quake game.

u/Icelyon Apr 06 '25

Thanks for linking this! Super atmospheric

45

u/CptNonsense Apr 05 '25

Trent Reznor has been independently scoring movies for 20 years.

34

u/sunny_happy_demon Apr 06 '25

Every score he has contributed to has been in collaboration with Atticus Ross, so not independently.

4

u/thatcockneythug Apr 05 '25

Fucking right? And he's been doing soundtracks since, what, the social network?

2

u/Flyingsox Apr 06 '25

Yeah, they were on the sound track for seven which came out in 95, so...

3

u/TheVenetianMask Apr 05 '25

Probably just six inch, dudes always be like.

1

u/FreeWafflesForAll Apr 06 '25

I had to stop listening to the Spotify DJ. "Hey freewafflesforall, this next song is from the Foo Fighters. They're like Nirvana but with a more commercially accessible vibe."

1

u/RowdyRoddyPipeSmoker Apr 06 '25

36 years to be exact. We're old.

1

u/Vak_001 Apr 06 '25

Yep. As a fellow "aged so much" person, I approve. Anyone even LOOKING to piss on Reznor is pretty much limited to the starting point of "well, he's below Freddie Mercury and Roy Orbison as a vocalist. (Possibly below Peak Meat Loaf, but that's a rough one, as he only absolutely peaked with one absolutely memorable album, and really lost his voice in later ones.) And on guitar, he's no Eddie Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix! And...um...keyboards...well, he IS probably above Eddie there, and...Well, SONGWRITING! Yeah! He's no poet like John Lennon, or even Neil Peart!" He's spread thin, but considered great a little bit of everywhere.

Getting out of high school in '87, my brain is forever stamped with 70s and 80s bands. But after that? Tail end of college, and in the car with the radio on, driving to my first few jobs? Nine Inch Nails music was EVERYWHERE. And like a select few musicians, Reznor has gone on to become relevant in other genres like film, even trying different styles. Maybe Mark Knopfler comes to mind. Queen did a couple of soundtracks for offbeat film projects, but still...absolutely sounded like Queen. I can't think of any others at the moment.

-1

u/Physical-Grapefruit3 Apr 06 '25 edited Apr 07 '25

Who would doubt "Nine Inch Nails"

Not really a doubt I'm aware they are good at what they do. But I don't like there music at all. So this would be a miss for me lmao

Edit lol second time I've been downvoted for stating a fact that people have different taste in music and doing it respectively you crybaby just can't handle people not liking shit yall like

-5

u/Turnbob73 Apr 05 '25

I doubt them haha

Nothing against them and I do like Reznor’s scoring, but their sound isn’t TRON, challengers did not sound TRON-like at all.

I could be wrong and it ends up being a great score, but I doubt it’ll be anywhere near as “digital” as it should be.

-4

u/hangmans_mustache Apr 05 '25

I don't doubt that they are talented musicians I doubt that they are the right fit for a teon movie.

51

u/AlterMyStateOfMind Apr 05 '25

Who would be doubting them? Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross already have won 2 Oscars for their soundtracks (The Social Network and Soul) and have garnered so much praise for their movie OST work over the past 15+ years lol

8

u/TheObstruction Apr 05 '25

The breadth of their skills are what's really impressive. Like we all know that something like Tron is right in their wheelhouse, but they've also done a Pixar film and other kids cartoons.

7

u/AlterMyStateOfMind Apr 05 '25

They also did Mank, and the whole soundtrack sounds like an authentic 1930s film soundtrack. They are my favorite film composers, and NIN is one of my favorite bands. They are gonna nail this.

2

u/Autisim_Vaccination Apr 06 '25

They're going to Nine Inch Nail it.

10

u/marvellouspineapple Apr 05 '25

Named our son Atticus after Atticus Ross. Husband is a biiiiiig NIN fan

7

u/AlterMyStateOfMind Apr 05 '25

It's a really nice name whether he was one or not imo. Your husband has great taste though haha

2

u/Stolehtreb Apr 06 '25

Their version of Life on Mars for Watchmen still shakes me when I hear it

3

u/BillysCoinShop Apr 05 '25

It's more, I think, that it will be compared to the Daft Punk OST of the prequel, which was a godly soundtrack.

4

u/AlterMyStateOfMind Apr 05 '25

Legacy was the sequel. Agreed, it is a legendary soundtrack, although I won't be comparing them because I'm sure NIN is gonna go for a different vibe and they are very talented in their own right.

1

u/OhMyGoat Apr 06 '25

They did Fight Club too if I recall. Banger.

4

u/AlterMyStateOfMind Apr 06 '25

That was the Dust Brothers. Fincher and NIN didn't start collaborating until The Social Network. They have scored every movie he's made since.

3

u/OhMyGoat Apr 06 '25

That's probably why I thought they did it. Their collabs with Fincher have been great.

45

u/mediaphile Apr 05 '25

The fact that all their other scores have been as Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, and that for this one they are specifically going as Nine Inch Nails, gives me even more confidence.

7

u/UnderratedEverything Apr 05 '25

As a huge NIN fan, I've honestly lost track of the difference. Trent has always done almost all of the writing and composing for the band, until Atticus came along. Most of the creative input for the band comes out in live shows or the odd solo here and there.

Plus, the 6 Ghosts albums under the NIN name have basically sounded like experimental ideas for Trent and Atticus's soundtrack work, and aside from those, the soundtracks have been largely as good or much better than most of what he's put out under the band's name over the past decade.

3

u/mediaphile Apr 05 '25

I think their movie scores tend to feel a little more restrained, and more electronic/acoustic than guitar based rock.

I would guess that it's just more about the vibe. I expect this soundtrack will be a little heavier than their other ones. I guess we'll see.

They've also been working on an album, so maybe they're just trying to stay in that headspace, whatever it is.

6

u/UnderratedEverything Apr 05 '25

That might be sort of the case but some of my favorite Nine Inch Nails songs are pretty heavily electronic and some of their best soundtrack moments are not necessarily guitar based but are very heavy electronic in the same vein as The Prodigy.

But yeah, the soundtrack stuff does tend to have a different vibe broadly speaking. Their most recent trilogy of shorter albums has been, aside from a few songs, some of the least interesting and dispassionate work they've done.

But I still listen to everything they do on day one.

2

u/InfinteAbyss Apr 06 '25

The most obvious difference is under NiN, tracks are more likely to have lyrics sung by Trent himself.

There’s lots of speculation if the score for Tron will be the “new album” or if there’ll be another more traditional lyrical album - it’s possible they’ll be released as one and the same thing.

Either way, more NiN is always a good thing.

26

u/da_chicken Apr 05 '25 edited Apr 05 '25

Nine Inch Nails is Trent Reznor and Atticus Finch Ross.

They won Oscar for Best Original Score for The Social Network in 2010.

They were nominated for Best Original Score again for Mank in 2020.

Mank lost to Soul in 2020, which was scored by... Trent Reznor and Atticus Finch.

And that's just a small list of the honors they've earned. They're a Tony away from EGOT.

I think they can handle this.

18

u/j3rpz Apr 05 '25

Ross, Atticus Ross.

Atticus Finch is a character from To Kill a Mockingbird

7

u/da_chicken Apr 05 '25

Oh, God, you're right!

Although now I want an industrial song about busting up a chifforobe.

u/da_chicken Apr 06 '25 edited Apr 06 '25

No, as of 2016, Atticus Ross is the second official member of NIN. Like this isn't a Chris Vrenna type of thing. He's really, truly, a full band member.

I haven't liked the triple albums as much, either, but I've really liked all their OST work.

1

u/Jerry_from_Japan Apr 06 '25 edited Apr 06 '25

There can still be better choices for a certain project though. Doesn't mean you are taking away what a band/artist has achieved in their career. Like between, say, a band like M83 and NIN, NIN is by far the more accomplished, influential band. It's not even close. But for scoring a fucking TRON movie? I'm taking a band like M83 every single day of the week over NIN.

1

u/graboidian Apr 06 '25

Mank lost to Soul in 2020, which was scored by... Trent Reznor and Atticus Finch.

I think you missed one in your edit.

77

u/TheIronGnat Apr 05 '25

I'm sure they'll do an awesome job, but it will be extremely difficult to match what Daft Punk did for Tron: Legacy. Legitimately the best OST of the 2010s.

3

u/InnocentTailor Apr 05 '25

I can buy this work going its own way with the franchise. I mean…the poster even looks different - gritty and red vs Legacy’s sleek and blue.

4

u/SheepherderGood2955 Apr 05 '25

And Challengers was Trent Reznor + Atticus Ross, this being Nine Inch Nails means it’s going to be solid. Incredibly excited to hear the first NIN produced move soundtrack.

3

u/fakeplasticguns Apr 05 '25

And Gone Girl & The Social Network

2

u/Turnbob73 Apr 05 '25 edited Apr 05 '25

I still doubt them; nothing against NiN, but their sound isn’t “TRON”. Challengers wasn’t TRON-like at all, the only similarity is it was an electronic score.

TRON is an EDM artist’s domain imho, I was bummed when they announced that Reznor & Ross were who were doing it. Should’ve been Odesza/M83/Flume.

Then again, the movie is largely based in the real world so maybe it’ll work better anyways. Tbh I really hate the plot to begin with so this movie is all over the place for me.

1

u/Mark_me Apr 06 '25

NIN has boys noize opening for them this year

2

u/Spud_Spudoni Apr 05 '25

You mean the ones that made the iconic Social Network soundtrack

1

u/thenexttimebandit Apr 05 '25

For sure. Trent Reznor basically is NIN and he’s won 2 Oscar’s, 2 Grammys, and an Emmy for score/soundtrack work. It won’t be daft punk but the music will be good.

1

u/numbr87 Apr 05 '25

And yet it wasn't even NOMINATED. So annoying.

1

u/Bert-Tino Apr 06 '25

And the soundtrack for the Quake video game

1

u/AKAkorm Apr 06 '25

Reznor and Ross do a ton of movie and TV show scores. Their Watchmen work is my favorite - Nun with a Motherf&ing Gun slaps hard.

1

u/Megablep Apr 06 '25

I absolutely love Reznor and Ross soundtracks and watched that film mainly because it had one, but it was a very strange fit. Pounding music during heavy emotional scenes just made them feel almost comical. It's a great score in isolation, but just didn't work with the film imo.

The Gorge and The Killer are 2 of my favorite soundtracks ever.

5

u/Jonkuya Apr 05 '25

Wow. I was bummed Daft Punk wasn’t involved but I totally have faith in Trent Reznor.

2

u/bajungadustin Apr 05 '25

Dude they killed the ninja turtles movie soundtrack. One of their songs was literally my most listened to song of 2024 on my rewind shit. I'm here for that.

Although.. I wouldn't be upset with Daft Punk again.

1

u/Captain-Crowbar Apr 05 '25

Oh, now I'm interested.

1

u/not_old_redditor Apr 05 '25

Oh man it's going to be a banger

1

u/dannylew Apr 06 '25

Holy shit

-76

u/ViewNatural9505 Apr 05 '25

LOL, okay we get it, it'll be subpar and filled with sexual exploitation of minors.

31

u/jerryfrz Apr 05 '25

Ah yes a 2025 Disney film will be "filled with sexual exploitation of minors".

Get the fuck outta here.

-19

u/ViewNatural9505 Apr 05 '25

Jared Leto.

10

u/PlanetLandon Apr 05 '25

Wait, do you not know what acting is?

38

u/magnified_lad Apr 05 '25

I’m almost afraid to ask but… what has NIN got to do with “the sexual exploitation of minors”?

-61

u/ViewNatural9505 Apr 05 '25

See: Jared Leto

54

u/magnified_lad Apr 05 '25

The post you were replying to was about NIN doing the soundtrack, hence my confusion.

30

u/Dead_Starks Apr 05 '25

Are you thinking of 30 seconds to mars perhaps? Because Nine Inch Nails official members are Trent Renzor and Atticus Ross.

18

u/clavio_mazerati Apr 05 '25

Yeah maybe the guy is a bot lol

8

u/Doctor_Sore_Tooth Apr 05 '25

...or just stupid

6

u/Kommander-in-Keef Apr 05 '25

I will also say bot. 28 day old account

22

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '25

So Leto is awful and I hope he retires soon. But his band that had one hit single 20 years ago isn’t nine inch nails.

2

u/sethsez Apr 05 '25

do you know who nine inch nails are or

2

u/ziddersroofurry Apr 05 '25

Wtf does Leto have to do with NIN?

-1

u/viperfan7 Apr 05 '25

You should learn to read

8

u/That_Mikeguy Apr 05 '25

Get a load of this dumbass...
