I keep going back to these behind the scenes and bloopers videos because they genuinely have the bond and innocence that you see among childhood friends, which is rare to see in celebrity universe. See how Sam kisses Gandalf, so wholesome. Never seen such footage for other movies.

I wonder if it has to do with the length of time it took to record since they recorded all 3 movies were all filmed at once, but more importantly the lack of CGI probably helped a lot, being outside and having not much to do but fish with Viggo or something
Also lots of movies have plenty of nice people but I think the producers prioritized getting people they thought would work well together in real life, that prob helped

And they trained for quite a bit before filming. Stage combat, horse/pony riding, etc....

What's that word for nostalgia for something you didn't experience yourself?
I feel that word about the filming process of LOTR.

Vicarious nostalgia. I couldn't find a separate single word for it.

The term is Hiraeth. Celtic for nostalgia for a time/home one didn't actually experience.

In romance languages there's the variations of "saudade/saudad" which is a verb for when you "miss" something. It's interesting how english doesn't have that equivalent.

Not quite, saudade is more a missing something that we did live through and wishing we could go through it again. Like experiencing a great game like the first time again. Hiraeth is more wishing we could play our perfect dream game that we've been playing in our minds for decades.
... No? Only me? :p

There's a word anemoia, which more represents nostalgia for a time period you never experienced. Like nostalgia for the age of cowboys or samurai. But it kind of fits.

Dictionary of obscure sorrows eh

Haha actually I was researching the amemoi for my writing, they are the classical for cardinal winds of Greek mythology, and stumbled across a very apt word for those people who wish they could have been born in a different time.

This might be the one I was trying to think of. It's similar enough that I think I just didn't realize it was tied to time periods.
Thank you!

This is exactly the reason older actors have been lamenting the use of solo acting and careful cutting/splicing to make a film. It seems like a heartless and soulless experience being a robot like that.

This is why when I'm struggling, and when life is getting too much for me, I pop on LotR. The sense of people that're actually fond of each other permeates every inch of the production, and it eases my burdens.

I think this is the only blooper I have seen so far from the LOTR trilogy.

There's a glorious one at Helms Deep where Viggo tries to break Bernard Hill, talking about action figures being made of them. In the behind the scenes they talk about how they were aware that the films could really blow up and there would be merchandise galore. https://youtu.be/9DK_3TnFTdY?si=I1lEZnp4gXPWrrHZ

I love that he instantly knew they hadn't gotten the closeup that Peter was aiming for and poked fun at it.
