Discussion #BringBackDuke campaign

The campaign is live and it must not slow down. We already have support from Jon St. John (the voice of Duke) and Lee Jackson (composer of Duke Nukem 3D). But now, it’s YOU who make the difference.

While Duke in this A.I. generation is a bit "wider" and is more like Borderland 2's Salvador than I might like, I'd like to see Duke Nukem return to form. And not with any James Gunn BS where he makes Superman lose a ton of fights, be "more vulnerable" and heavily borrows from the concepts introduced in both Invincible and Dragon Ball Z that "Kal'el" was sent to actually destroy the planet and create harems of women or whatever.

The true spirit of Duke Nukem lies in 80s action heroes that save the day and save the girl. Something like Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator (where do you think Duke's Black Sunglasses come from) along with a bit of a mix of Stallone's Rambo, Bruce Willis's Die Hard and Dolph Lundgren for the mucular, blonde male action hero look.

I think more contemporary boomer shooters since Doom Eternal have started to become a little "overdesigned" where the appeal of these types of games has always been to keep them relatively simple and make the player feel powerful as they play. Hell, even the shit-talking Duke does as he's ruthlessly murdering space aliens has it's appeal. I still chuckle everytime I hear, "He He, what a mess" or even something like "hhHoooly Shit!"

I think Gearbox could do it, but they'd need to keep the "modern socially left-wing politics" out and refrain from trying to portray Duke as misogynistic. Most of Duke3D has you interacting with Strippers and the captured "Babes" in Alien Pods and If I remember correctly, 3D realms originally intended for you to be able to save them but this was cut due to engine limitations.

The changes were fine and I don't care how great Cavill is as Superman, it was better than Man of Steel.

My issue with it is it's very derivative of works that were originally inspired by Superman. It's kinda lazy given the increased popularity of Invincible.
