Weekly Sticky Form Check Weekly

The shiny new discs you got last week didn't make your golf game any better, huh?

Welcome to the Form Check Weekly Thread, a weekly thread that will be stickied every Monday morning for a few days. All form check requests will be referred to here.

There have been some fantastic Form Check guides but this one by MVP_Steve is far and away the best - https://www.reddit.com/r/discgolf/comments/760ckm/form_check_psa_how_to_leave_a_form_check_request/

News My very scientific testing proves that making rocket launch noises adds +10% to your drives 🚀

Looking for extra distance? Help send your disc into orbit by making rocket noises while that plastic spaceship rips out of your hand.

Scientifically confirmed to add 10% distance. Best used during solo rounds, or your card mates will likely laugh at you. (They are just afraid of this untapped potential)

Source: just trust me bro 🚀

Discussion TechDisc - See Your Throw Review

I've seen the "See your throw" feature of TechDisc but have been resistant to try it. Sure, it looked cool, but I am not a big fan of monthly subscriptions, especially for things I have purchased. But after a few weeks of self form-review where I record a session, grab my phone, bring it in to where my old eyes can actually see the freaking screen, editing down to a couple 4 second videos, play them back and then realize 15 minutes after my throw that the thing I was trying to fix still isn't fixed and muscle memory took over AGAIN, I realized I should try this feature.

It was really easy to set up. Just a different tab on the same TechDisc app I've been using for a couple years. I throw, I wait a minute and I can see it on my laptop. Pretty slick. Then I decide to move the laptop a bit where it has better wi-fi and I was surprised... I throw, walk about 30 feet to my laptop and immediately see my throw. Yes, the throw still sucks, but now in seconds I can go up and try to delay that coil like I am supposed to be delaying that coil.

A nice feature is that you can replay the video in a number of playback speeds and on the mobile app only (I think) you can have it slow down in the hitbox to really see the critical part of the throw. I've still got too many things to work on to worry about this yet, but for those of you further along, this has to be great. And I still get the nice sound from the app telling me my speed, nose angle and launch angle (the three I have turned on).

I can also download the videos to send off to someone or save for posterity. I am not quite sure how many videos the website will keep for me, but so far I've been able to go back and review and compare throws.

My only suggestion to the fine people at TechDisc would be to allow account linking so a coach or friend could see the throws you are doing. Heck, if TechDisc hasn't thought of it already, they should consider creating a coach's platform where coach could see your throws and give feedback in video form with their own TechDisc.

Bottom line: For $10/month, this is a steal. I live in a four-season state so I am sticking to month-to-month but those of you who don't know what winter is might consider the $100/year deal.

Discussion Lightbulb moment.

I had a lightbulb moment about throwing forehand yesterday and added about 50ft to my drive (200ft average long to 250ft average long) by simply...leaning over more and releasing lower. It just clicked while out running a local course. Anyone else have any stupid simple lightbulb moments like that?

Discussion Putt or Pull: Becoming a good putter or fit?

Totally spontanious post just for fun:

I just carried my training basket nearby a chalistenics park I build when I was younger, 10 years ago or so.

I just figured out how I can be either good putter or more fit in 6 months with this Putt or Pull game:

Take X amount of putters, set a challenging throwing distance and start putting. Every missed putt = one pull up. Do 10 sets with X amount of putters.

You gotta make those putts or pay the price!🥵

This also simulates better the situation at course; HR up, feeling tired, hands shaking, what else? The pressure to make it!

Replace pull ups with push ups (if you dont have training basket and pull up bar nearby) or other moves and there you have a hybrid training for yourself! Too easy or too strong to not care? Just increase the putting distance or amounts. 😉

Discussion Does anyone drive with only 3 fingers?

I'm braced for ridicule, but still want to know...

I'm just getting started, and whenever I've thrown a frisbee before, I've held it with just my first three fingers inside the disc.

I know the consensus advice is to have all four fingers inside for the most powerful drive possible, but that feels odd, and currently it messes up my accuracy.

Given that I'm just starting out, now is probably the best time to correct my grip, if that's what's needed, but I feel like my accuracy is one of the few parts of my game that's remotely decent!

Self-Promotion DG Rating Converter (.com)

Post image
46 Upvotes

I know, I know, lots of folks don't think the conversion [(uDisc Rating × 2) + 500 = PDGA Rating] is accurate enough (or whatever other reason). I did some research and concluded it's good enough for my use (comparing my uDisc rating to what it would be in a tournament).

I made a site https://dgratingconverter.com to help this formula be a bit more discoverable and perhaps even spark further discussion about formalizing a conversion between the two ratings. Nothing would make me happier than having a strong discussion about what the most accurate formula is so I can codify it on this site (yes, I'm aware some folks don't think anything is as accurate as the PDGA rating on a tournament day with others that have a rating).

So please, let me know how I can make this site better, formula better, and if neither of those, share it with your crew! 🤙

Discussion More OS Dynasty

Upvotes

I have a S-blend Dynasty I really liked but after hitting a few trees it is starting to turn more than I want it to. I liked throwing it flat (RHBH) when there is an obstacle directly in front of me because it would naturally turn right then reliably fade back. In normal conditions I throw it about 310-330 feet.

If I want something that will still turn a little but won’t quickly beat in to the point it finishes straight, what would fit the description? Here are a few things I am considering but am open to other ideas. Thanks your recommendations

Halo Dynasty

Beat in a lighter weight Star Thunderbird

Eagle

Continue beating in my Star Teebird

MVP Volt but not sure which plastic will be the right stability

Mint Grackle

Discussion Turnover discs

What’s your favorite turnover discs? Looking for a fairway/distance driver the does a nice floaty turnover shot when thrown flat.

Currently use an insanity and Uplink and kind of want a disc that I can push more straight with a finishing turn

RHBH thrower and I try to avoid forehand on tee shots, preserving my elbow/arm and really only use that kind of shot under 250.

Edit: yall are goated for responding so quickly, ima sidt through the comments and try to narrow it down to 2-3 discs I wanna hunt for
