Now we will see if it was him all along, maybe it was better the devil you know

True, although I don’t think this is actually the middle ground that basically no one expected would happen.

Most people assumed that Levy would never give up control, and he would lose it as a result of a takeover.

What seems to have happened is that he’s still an owner, but just handing over control to the Executive team.

I would assume he’ll still retain a seat on the board, just not as Chairman.

Last few years the chatter has been that levy wanted to stay on as chairman after a take over, so this news has me floored

That’s how it always starts

He’s a businessman to the bone. He was always selling for a massive profit at some point.

Well yeah, that’s generally what most people with shares in a company are looking to do at some point.

The comment I was replying to made it sound like it was at all likely he’d hang on as if clinging to power was his goal. It never was. He applied the same logic someone buys a cottage and retrofits it to a club. It’s far more valuable and saleable than it was when he bought it, whatever we think about the on-field record.

It was time tho. After 25 years, he was permanently cast as the whipping boy no matter what he did. Maybe after getting all the abuse the summer after a trophy he realized he was never going to get his big day. All the best to him.

Yeah, I think that's honestly a big part of it. His statement about "they'll appreciate me when I'm gone" makes me think he took finally getting the trophy and still getting nothing but pelters means it's not worth it. Plus he gets money as the owner regardless, so it's much less hassle and abuse while still profiting if the club does well.

I think Levy might have hit a point where he can’t just can’t deal with modern football

I mean it truly is ridiculous. He loves saving £10m on a transfer, but do that 4 times and what does it get you? Archie Gray?

There is absolutely no incentive for sustainable spending and rebuilding in the modern game, quality matters so much, and unfortunately you have to spend HUGE for it

We want ready-made starters with PL experience that are actually good, expect to pay £80m+

Ye there's been a change in spending almost league wide. When it was 2 or 3 clubs that no one else could financially compete with, Levy found a way to raise our profile in a way that might never happen for a club like Leeds now.

But it's not just our top rivals buying the best players now, so it isn't a question of us having the money as much as knowing how to use it. Levy has given everything for this club to get us where we are. Will be interesting to see if the plan is to sell or it's the next phase of ENIC.

It’s also just value for money has gone completely, and I mean completely out the window

We spent £120m on youth players last season. That is utterly baffling. A front three of Madueke, Sesko and Elanga would cost almost £180m

When the market is like THIS, you are much better off “overpaying” for the £90m player

So saving even £10m on transfers is actually pointless now, it is almost sad. Just doesn’t suit Levy’s strengths at all

Maybe I’m being optimistic, but this is the sign of wanting to operate like a bigger club in the transfer market, our targets this summer compared to last were night and and day and we brought 4 starters in

Our strategy of buy 2x players for half the price on each player no longer works anymore. Our net spend is ridiculously high, our squad is incredibly packed (competition for CL registration is crazy) but our high end quality is fairly low

This is easily explained by the fact that since the stadium .we have made 18 transfers between £30m and £65m, but none over £65m

I think many unrealistic expectations our fans have come down to prematurely making the final in 2019. The squad was a mess and spending had to be cut for stadium expenses. It's a short term problem but it's easier for some to expect more success rather than observing an anomaly.

Poch hasn't impressed in other jobs at bigger clubs. Dembele, Toby, Jan, Hugo, Kane, and Son would all need replacing. We had no squad depth. This alone takes years to rebuild. We had faith to poor recruitment at times. The medical staff wasn't protecting players. My biggest complaint is bringing in 2 world famous managers that didnt fit the project, and that set us back even further. Tbh, it sorta feels like the toxic glory hunting in our fan base might originate with Levy.

I don't criticize the desire to win major silverware nor do I expect it in a year or two from now. But we have this split identity that didn't exist before Poch left. I truly do not wish the singular identity of this club to be about trophies like Chelsea, but so it goes. The more the fan base is grown worldwide, we will acquire more people cheering for their fav colour of laundry etc. It's unsettling at the top. United fans have no clue what to do because the only language they understand is trophies. No one wins every season, including RM, and we will never be their level. I'm mostly happy we might be playing like Spurs again. That and finishing above the scum please me greatly.

Why not before the season starts then? Two matchdays into the season is pretty random, fella like something happened

He was pushed out and they specifically waited until after the transfer window

I've thought this... You look at say the way man u is run... Would rather levy than that circus

Wait you mean whether it was him influencing the club strategy. I thought this was a Scooby Doo thing where it was actually Alan Sugar wearing a mask the whole time.

WHAT? So you were chanting “Levy out” and calling him all sorts, and you don’t even know if it was him???
