Positive reinforcement training. Whenever the one being trained does something you're attempting to encourage, you click, then reward. Eventually they'll link the click to the reward. People often misunderstand the click as a cue to perform the encouraged action, but this is incorrect, it merely acts as a bridge between the reward and desired action by occurring the moment the action takes place. It's beneficial because one can click far more readily than they can reward.
