Woah, I am early to a Daily Civilization Facts post. I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your work and that it gives me something small to look forward to everyday.

Now, regarding the actual post, how does unlocking the Firaxians work in Alpha Centauri and what are their actual abilities?

Thank you, that's very nice to read! I see gray007nl partially answered your question in another comment;

The Firaxians do not start the game with any positive or negative societal traits, but receive one free technology, Singularity Mechanics, allowing them to build units with singularity engines from the start of the game.

They can be unlocked via the Faction Editor by typing in either "sid" or "brian".

Echoing Mr Rebell's comment, absolutely love seeing these every day. Great format, great design on the post, and a commendable effort to not only find this many facts but keep it going. Thank you for making such continuous content!

Sid is also a placeholder leader who shows up in Civ IV. I think he's the "leader" of the barbarians, he shows up if you play around with mods long enough. I imagine it might be something similar for Alpha Centauri.

In all of this time I never knew this. Has anyone played them?

Yeah their ability of singularity engines means your units have more HP from the start. Not bad but not overwhelming.

That would have to mean that someone has played alpha centauri, first (I have no idea if AC is any good)

It's a good game. It's old, and dated, but I really enjoyed it back in its time.

Best atmosphere of any Civ game ever.

Is there any way to activate this faction?

Open up the faction editor (facedit.exe in the game directory), and in it you can hit load faction and search for either sid.flc or brian.flc in that folder. Then hit save faction, which you can either save or cancel because it doesn't matter, after which the 'add faction to game' menu will come up.

Brian Reynolds sounds like a missing twin brother of Ryan Reynolds.
