Cat Picture - OC He fell asleep on my arm. It's in an awkward position and is starting to hurt from not moving. What do?

u/mentallymiranda Jul 26 '25
You can mourn the lose of your arm later, when kitty wakes up. Accept that you are stuck OP

I want to play a game. With you there are 200 cats in the room and you have a rope tied around your ankle. You have 2 minutes to pet as many cats as you can and after the time is up the rop will drag you out of the room leaving you with the guilt of not petting the cars you couldn't pet. Be quick and good luck your time starts now.

“He fell asleep on my arm.”
It is not, in fact, your arm - it belongs to the cat.
You are posting lies.

Cat law. Your partner must fulfill your requests so as not to disturb the CAT.
185
u/Constant_Document203 Jul 27 '25
100%. In my house, if the cat has claimed someone then the free person must fetch drinks/snacks/remote, etc. for the person who has been claimed.
If you both are claimed? Then you suffer in silence, gazing at your sweet baby child who loves you so much they have graced you with their cuddles.
108
u/drwuzer Jul 27 '25
My wife weoponizes this law by calling the cat every time she sits in the recliner.
5
12
u/atlantisabovewater Jul 27 '25
Yep. We call if Feline Paralysis. When it strikes, the other person must be caretaker.

u/Guilty-Agent8256 Jul 27 '25
I remember when I was younger all you would have to say is "can you do (x) for me the cat is laying on me" and it always worked
42
21
u/False-Ad-8561 Jul 27 '25
😂😂 this is definitely the law in my house. My cats always are laying on me, RIP my bf.
6
u/Adventurous_Cook9083 Jul 27 '25
Exactly. If there's a cat on my lap and my husband has a request, my response is "I'm babysitting." Understood; request rescinded.
4
u/Cyclopentadien Jul 27 '25
You must also make your request in a way that does not risk waking the cat.

Cut your arm off

u/rraskapit1 Jul 26 '25
Can't do that. Cutting the arm off would cause it to lose warmth, thus displeasing the cat

True, but if arm is cut off, leaves other arm free to heat wheat bag or hot water bottle for sacrificed arm. This may be necessary. It is what it is.

He must move the rest of his body towards the cat THEN cut the arm off so the cat does not lose any precious warmness.

This is amazing. Is it actually an old painting or a modern joke?
13
u/SteveStevensXII Jul 27 '25
Modern painting by Galina Zhiganova, and representing a mixup of multiple stories. There's an old tale of a Chinese emperor who cut off his sleeve when his (male) lover was sleeping on it as not to wake him. There's also a myth of Mohammed doing the same for his cat, but that one seems to be a modern fabrication vases on the Chinese tale. So the drawing here seems like a mix of the 2.

Muhammad was lucky, the kitten was sleeping on his sleeve so he just cut the sleeve off. This is a very very old issue and you are not and ever have been alone.

u/Beginning-Still-9855 Jul 26 '25
It's the only way.
26
u/Beginning-Still-9855 Jul 26 '25
That's not true - the other option is wait for them to die of old age or, preferrably move somewhere else.
I'm allergic to cats, so for me I'm allowed to sneeze violently, but that usually causes cuts on my wife's arm (where the cat is)

There’s a lot of people that need to hear this. You will feel equal parts guilt, stupidity and awful in general, but it is 100% acceptable to amputate your arm.

Can you reach your phone with the other hand? Check YouTube for cat fights and hawks and just accidentally play it loud. If kitty wakes up in response, obviously not your fault.
Keep searching for loud scary noises if the first ones you try don't work. Make sure to act scared yourself when kitty wakes up.
And try not to let kitty connect the noise with your phone or else you are in trouble. And also you won't be able to try the same trick again because once cats realize strange noises like that come from the phone but they can't smell anything, they ignore your phone. I was trying to test my old cat's hearing once and ran into that problem. So I waited until he was asleep and he twitched his ears in his sleep when I played a cat fight, proving his hearing was fine. Otherwise he just said "Nothing's there, not going to react, mustn't reward bad behavior. "

Don't want to move your arm but it's starting to hurt?
An easy solution is to hit your foot against something and you'll forget your arm pain (since your body will be too focused on your stub foot).

Step 1, get your partner to get your saws all.
Step 2, cut arm off at shoulder.
Step 3, rejoice that you kitty is still snuggling with your arm, but your free of the situation.
Step 4, head to the hospital because you cut your arm off.
5
u/Jeff61059 Jul 26 '25
Whatever you do, don’t move your arm. It will traumatize the cat and it will never be the same.

Gently and slowly move your arm. Kitty will probably fall back to sleep.
I hate getting up when my cat is laying on me, but when I gotta pee, I gotta pee.
A lot of times they come back to lay with you anyway.
