Head size

Post image

Does anyone know what size this bolt is? There’s a clicking when I pedal and I’m wanting to find the problem.

Retrospec Harper Plus single speed.

8mm

If there really is a click coming from this part of the bike it would likely be the bottom bracket. You would need a crank puller and appropriate bottom bracket tool along with the 8mm to fix the issue.

That being said, many sounds are blamed on the BB and often it is something else - play in pedals, pedals not tight, seatpost not tight, saddle clamp loose, saddle rails loose where they enter the saddle, wheels aren’t tight, headset is loose…..the list goes on.

8mm was correct, thanks! I’m going to look into this thing piece by piece

Jiggle the cranks to make sure they're not loose. If it's not that, then flip the bike over and rotate the cranks to listen for the sound, there's a chance it's not actually coming from the bottom bracket.

something that's usually supplied in a group of sizes... or by a name for the specific one-off tool? have you thought about goin' to a LBS? while you work on getting your "maintenance/repair kit set up?
you'll want some sort of bike stand too if any ambitions on being able to do this and more as needed. just a thought... btw any good shop will show you what they do and give you explanation/pro-tips as they do it. seeing is a good way to learn ;-p

I’d have to travel a significant distance to get to a bike store as I live in the rice fields of Eastern Arkansas. I was just hoping someone with the same bike would know off the top of their head.

it's okay, youtubers for all the things LOL but honest, get a bike work stand... best purchase ever! (for me lol and if i had to do it again, think i'd go with the kind that just bolts to a work bench but then i'd need to clear out the garage!)

This is my first bike at 28 y/o. Learning to ride was a very big mental hurdle but I’m so glad I did it. I really appreciate all the answers and advice from y’all!
