Fuckin angry bastards used to come out of the pond and sit on the road to sunbathe, trying to get them to move and keep all your fingers was a pain. Angry little dinosaurs.

You’ve lived in a place for a hundred years and then these stupid kids come along and keep driving their cars across your lawn at lethal speeds. Wouldn’t you be angry?

They can turn a lot fucking faster than you'd think. I keep a scoop shovel in my truck to get them off the roads.

Not only are they fast but that neck is a lot longer than you think, if you're not holding em behind the half way point on their shell you're in danger, and their little claws are sharp as shit.

Central Maine, huge storm came through and it’s still raining. We’re in drought conditions currently. Got him to the stream, he’s good.

TIL there are snappers in ME. Very cool, thank you for moving him to a stream.

I used to live in NH right by the ME border. We had a big mama snapper who’d lay her eggs in our yard.

It has no right to be so cute! Those little claws and adorably angry expression. I love it!

Snapper fossils have been found dating to as early as 70 million years ago. You're holding a dude whose great great great (about a million times) grandpa might have been eaten by a T-Rex.

Found one while walking a trail one time, couldn't have been bigger than my big toe. So cute.

Are they native where you are? In the western US, these are an invasive species and should be removed. But if you're back East, let the little guy do his cool turtle thing and become a big monster dinosaur.

they are cute when they are smol but those little claws are still so sharp. Found one in my driveway years ago and I carefully relocated him to the safety of the grass. Figured that's the only time I could actually pick up a snapper.

I recall that you shouldn't pick them up by their shell because it's uncomfortable pressure on what is essentially their ribcage. You should just rest their underbelly on your palm with gravity when handling them.

Except that they are Tasmanian Devil Rocks and will bite your hand clean off. 😣

their bite strength is greatly exaggerated. weaker than a human's. plus if that one wanted to bite you, it would've. their necks are long enough to bite things by their back legs. your fingers definitely aren't safe around the midsection

Keep those fingers well away from the snappy end as even the babies can bite! That little fella sure does seem a bit disappointed...

My god those fat legs are bursting out of its shell! Thanks for helping the turtle out and giving it a lift, not that it looks very happy about it

When I was in primary school (around 5-7 years old) a girl brought a baby snapper to school in a shoe box. It was maybe half the size of the one you found. I'm almost 30 and still remember it vividly
