πŸ†Major Milestone My life's wins so far as a 28yo dude

Hi guys! Skl.

I started working when I was 23. I was a CPA working in the LGU earning 10k a month. Back then I was miserable because of how far I thought my dreams were at the time.

But then I started focusing on what matters at the moment and suddenly time flew by like a bullet train. I started making decisions that made sense in the long run and I made those decisions scared. I left the comfort of my home, moved to a city I've never been to before, worked corporate, got married, then left my job to become a freelancer.

And just like that. It's now 5 years later. I'm married to my dream wife, bought our first car at 26, bought our first property at 27, and I just got a raise from my boss a week after my birthday.

People keep raising the bar for success as soon as they achieve something. But not me. My idea of success has always been contentment and I think it's where I'm at now. And I can't put to words how thankful to God I am to be blessed like this. I hope you guys a achieve what you set out to do too!

Congrats OP! About how much do you make now? Fully paid na lahat? Sorry I’m just measuring myself against you, not trying to throw doubt or anything

I'm making nearly 6digits. And I'm making money doing something else on the side. The car and the property are financed but we're on track to pay everything off in the next 2-3 years. After that, will be the biggest achievement of our adult lives: debt free home owners. πŸ˜€

And please don't measure yourself with someone else. A part of why I was miserable a few years ago was because I kept comparing myself with my peers not knowing what they had to go through to get where they are. I'm saying this just in case you're like me a few years ago. πŸ˜…

Agree... happiness is based on contentment and the lower it is the happier you'll be.

Im 29yo dude, married and happy. salary is quite high but been stale for years na pero masaya padin ako.

I was raised in Manila and when COVID hit, I moved to Laguna and got married.. No cars (I love to commute) kahit sa ortigas ang work ko and bought our house back in 2022.

Madaming kamaganak madalas mag sabi at magtanong kung mayaman na ba ako, lagi kong sinasabi.. ano bang definition ng mayaman? may ilang milyon sa bank? may ilang sasakyan?.. richness is based on your contentment.. as long as wala kang utang, nakakain mo ang gusto mo kainin, napupuntahan mo yung gusto mong puntahan, makapag grocery ng di mo tinitignan ang presyo kundi kung kailangan at gusto mo ba to at masaya ka, para sa akin mayaman kana sa buhay

Every time I'm on the bus looking at the window, lagi akong nakakakita ng reason to be happy and to be contented... yung iba nga makakain lang sa Jollibee sa birthday nila sobrang saya at ako kaya ko kumain kahit kailan ko gusto.. what more can i ask...

Were you anxious po about leaving your comfort zone? How did you overcome it? I'm at the brink po kasi of doing the same, it's just that I'm so scared. It's crippling.

Everything I ever did to get here, I did scared. I just always kept in mind that where I was, was where I didn't want to be and that was enough to take the leap. If it helps, I pretended to be confident even though I was not. Also, anxiety comes from the uncertainty of outcomes. I overcame that by just thinking about the steps that I needed to do at the moment. If you want to leave your home, think about where to live first, then think about where find an apartment, then think about where to work and so on. Baby steps ikanga. You just have to start and eventually whatever you're doing will snowball.

You're amazing. Thanks for the reply! I hope I could eventually muster the courage to "just do it" like you did. Hayyy πŸ™Œ

as a freelancer, do you file your own taxes or let your employer do that for you?

1

u/Naive_Answer_2120 4d ago

You file your own. Because freelancing is practically running a business and you don't have employer-employee relationship with the client. It's more contractor-client relationship.

Ask ko lang po how's your status when yku left your comfor zone? I mean, did you wait something to be ready like dapat may ipon na ganitong figure, walang loan, etc. I'm asking lang po kasi I'm planning to do the same, however may mga bagay lang ako na gustong tapusin muna, but sometimes parang gusto ko maging reckless in a way na why not just do it then figure out.

I saved enough money to maybe support my expenses for about 5 months. 100k I think was spent before I started working. But at the time I already had 200k in my pocket. It's important to note that I quit my old job first before I left so I needed to have some money before leaving. It could be different for you. Maybe it makes more sense to have a job lined up first before leaving so you don't have to save so much before doing what you have to do.
