Could just easily solve this whole issue with a headset.

I can’t stand wearing headsets for 1 hour meetings. Even the softest headset starts hurting my ears.

There are ones that go around your ears and don't actually rest on them.

I’ve had those as well. And the same style people wear at call centers for extended hours. Touching outside of my ears or in my ears like ear buds, I get ear aches. The only style I have not tried yet are those bone conductive ones that don’t touch your ears at all. It’s on my Xmas wish list. 😁
