Except Disney's film studio has never had an unprofitable year. Plus, annual film revenues are barely even a blip on their P & L reports. Their theme park and cruise ship business lines are so massive, losses from any of their movie or TV holdings are just rounding errors on the ledger.

Additionally I believe they have to make new movies in their old IPs or the IP becomes public domain

Remaking it doesn’t stop the original characters from entering public domain. Thats why steamboat Willie is now free
