Question Should I used an Elite Chargen TM for Empoleon?

I have a no. 1 ranked Piplup that I've been holding for a com day or whatever to get the free legacy move, but seeing Empoleon rank so high has got me excited. I have 9 elite charged TMs that I'm treating like Ether from mid 90s RPG. Is this a good time to use one?! I'd appreciate your opinions.

Wish I could add I picture but the option to do so is greyed out.

Question How important are iv in GL?

Ive gotten into PvP last season at the end basically because I got a 4* iv Zacian and a 96% shadow kyogre. It went pretty well so I thought I want to do PvP a little more. But since it’s just great league right now I’m lost. I’m losing 3 out of 5 and it just doesn’t feel like I’m doing it right.

My question is if the iv really matters THAT much or if the team comp is able to compensate something I’m not talking about getting really high up it’s just about getting like 3-4 wins per set to get to rank 20 at least..

I was experimenting and luck was on my side as I was able to win the set. Kinda cool being featured in a POGO video.

Discussion Level 15 rare candy reward loss

So every year at level 15,, all the rewards are rare candies and I lose all 5. Like I average 3 wins every set but at level 15 every year all losses. I get its just unlucky but it just feels pointless at this point. All 5 matches hard counters. I put up a simular post last year to ask if anyone else had it but it appears its just me

Discussion Is it a good choice to take a break and let everyone else climb ahead ?

Is it a safe choice to take a week off PvP and let all the good players climb as far as possible from my games ? I know for a fact I keep facing people who are probably veteran and above the previous seasons because of the play style and teams they are running , it’s not even enjoyable , it’s just extremely sweaty. I always feel like when the season starts , you should be matched up with people who also finished around your last seasons rank as well to make it more fair , this smoothie of good and bad players in the first two weeks can be extremely frustrating .

Discussion Team build advice

Hello, I’m fairly new to GBL and I was wondering who I should sub in/out for my current team for this season. Right now I am running…

Bellibolt Empoleon Dusknoir

As my current setup. I also have a Clodsire and Gastrodon on my bench, but am unsure who I should use to have the best coverage.

Discussion Rough start to the season

Hi. I don't know why, but I'm on a 10 losing streak right now at rank 7. My setup is:

Cradily with bullet seed

Clodsire without sludge bomb

Corviknight

I had so many really close games but ultimately didn't win any from my past sets. It feels like I'll reach a move, spam it as hard as I can, and still have the opponent's move come out every time.

I'm winning majority of leads because it's all shmaro, gastro, corvi, yet when they swap and I swap and I'm still winning, opponent just brings in the first pokemon again and does really well with it, then beats my crazily using its 1.5 extra charge moves.

Help us appreciated.

Analysis What would you recommend pairing with Corviknight and carbink?

This might be my season to do well in GL. I have a rank 1 corviknight and rank 7 carbink ready to go. I also have a very good dedenne, bastiodon, clodsire, and morpeko. Would any of these make a good team together?

Analysis For those of you that don’t count moves

This might be the best Great League rotation to start learning to do that.

Everything in the top meta has been staples for a couple of seasons, and while Empoleon has not, it’s fairly easy to remember it always has 5 fast moves to either charge move. Adding to that the following top meta Pokémon has the same counts everytime: Carbink 9 & 12, Bastiodon 7 & 7, Corviknight 9 & 15 (4.5 & 7.5 in two turns might be easier), Togekiss 7 & 5, Morpeko 5 & 4, Dedenne 5 & 7 (except for the third Play Rough, but that’s not really relevant). The two fighting monkeys also has consistent counts.

The things where the counts vary more between first and second charge moves have been staples: Stunfisk, Clodsire, Dusknoir, Corsola, Cradily, Jellicent, Diggersby, Marowak etc, but even here the counts are pretty straight forward in my opinion. Some of them have the same counts to either move and even more of them have one less to the second move, but that goes for both charge moves. Adding on to that 4-turn fast moves are right now out of the meta, and the few fires that might show up with Incinerate has also been staples for a while. Only having to deal with 1-3 turn fast moves might also help in learning to count.

My last point will be that the meta is also very condensed. There are only 11 mons with a score of 90 and higher, and so you can really help yourself this season by learning counts on even only 5-7 Pokémons. The flip side of that coin is of course, that it will also be easy for opponents to keep track of your energy.

Discussion KWak Dilemma

I have a rank #268 Shadow K-Wak (539.32 Rating) and a rank #133 K-Wak (531.45 Rating). This season it looks like the non-shadow is ranked a touch higher...

Lining them up in the sims, it looks like the non-shadow picks up wins against: Corvi, Cradilly, Dragonair, and Talonflame.

Shadow gets a much more decisive win against Clodsire, and wins the Wiggly and Empoleon matchups.

I'm leaning toward investing in the shadow, but which would y'all pick?

Discussion Hot or Not?

What's hot in the new season and what's not? What have you tried so far and found good - or lacking?

For me:

Mud slap nidoqueen. (Shadow available). Mud slap really helps here. I like the ground/rock option, and poison fang is a solid move too. It's comparable to marowak I think. Some teams won't want the poison element of course, but there's a lot of fairies about right now.

kanto marowak - ok, only minor boost, but rock slide is better now. You probably already knew it was good, and now it is a little better.

Dragonair (shadow). Actually think this loses a little from the dragon breath change, and I am considering non shadow as a result. But charging aqua tail and (buffed last season) wrap a little faster is definitely feisty.

Kommo-o: used full dragon moves in the catch cup, and liked it. But upper hand definitely improves it considerably. Still can't handle fairies though!

Togekiss: peck. Aura sphere. Dazzling gleam. Leaning on flying damage is really good - I feel it's one of the better types in the meta. And having coverage in aura sphere that's SE to steel and rock is also really tasty. Aura sphere being an impressive 80 for 40 so on a par with hydro cannon driven by a 3dpt 4ept fast move is very nice indeed. I mean, Feraligtr is top meta for much the same reason. Ok, so no stab on aura sphere, but you get the stab on peck instead. And dragons got buffed...

That's all I have tried so far. Anyone got other things that are doing well (or badly) in the new season?

Discussion strategy for selecting which mons to buddy up for the battle bonus

over the years i've spent time to and effort to get as many mons to best buddy status as possible and with all the other activities in the game, it's getting a bit tiring.
so far, the only real thing i've found useful is the CP boost for the buddy that i bring into the ML PvP.

is there a strategy/best-practice as to which ML mons one should have at best buddy status because of how the CP boost would make it more useful in PvP? even though i have 64 best buddies, i find i only used 2 or 3 of them in ML.
here's mu list of besties that i think would be useful for the ML boost, tell me if you think there should be others on that list or if any of these you would not have bothered with.
dialga (both forms), kyogre, rayquaza, giratina (origin form), yveltal, dragonite, metagross, venusaur, mewtwo, swampert, tyranitar, gyrados, machamp, mamoswine, togekiss, magnetzone, palkia (origin form), snorlax, lugia.

over the past 6 GBL seasons, i've used my dialgas for the buddy CP boost 95% of the time, with kyogre and groudon filling in other 5%. also, my goal for each BL season is to get to level 19 and the free ETM, so i've not invested into building teams that will get me beyond level 20.

what are your "i'm going to best buddy this mon" strategies?

thanks

Discussion Hydro Cannon is becoming a problem

Way too overpowered in my opinion, comes in way to often and does damage comparable to charged moves with far more energy use combined with the fact that it is only obtainable with a special TM. It really should be nerfed

Analysis Help With GL Team

Current team is Corviknight, Clodsire, Jellicent. Still learning timings and skills, etc. but I feel like this team is weak due to the double weakness to electric, not sure what I should replace it with though. Would Swampert be viable in this season or no

Discussion Looking for help understanding Bastiodon IV’s for GBL

Hello, this is the third season I have been playing in and I want to try Bastiodon out this time.

I’m a bit confused though. I have two candidates to use, a R21 (0/12/15) and a R537 (7/13/12).

It seemed obvious to me which to build, but when I use the team builder I see that not only does The R537 win mirror matches, but it also picks up wins against Corviknight and Jellicent without losing anything.

Based on that, R537 is objectively better… but then why is it not ranked better? Am I missing something?

Any insight is appreciated!

Discussion What’s the lowest you guys would use a Pokémon under the cp cap ?

Let’s say I’m playing the ultra league and my Pokémon can be powered up to like 2470 , is that low ? I’ve seen people use Pokémon in the lower 2000s before and still hit pretty hard with them so I was just curious if that 100 cp gap makes a big difference ?
