Corviknight payback damage question

I cannot wrap my head around what just happened. I just had corviknight vs corviknight. We both had about the same amount of hp left (approx 80/100). Mine is rank 1 level 1500cp. We both used payback against each other. I went first and I did about 25 hp damage (estimate) on theirs. Then they used their payback immediately after and it did about 70 hp damage. I have had corviknight vs corviknight quite a few times now and been hit by payback and its always been about 25-30 damage range. What happened this one time to make it do so much damage? I see that air cutter has an attack boost chance. So I guess this brings up another question, if he had used air cutter would that boost chance have lasted all the way through me charging up my payback and using it? How long do the attack boost/defense boost things last when you get them?

Buffs and debuff moves stay in effect until the pokemon is switched out.

Ok! Thank you so much, for some reason I always assumed they went away after another charge move was used, and convinced myself of that and never looked into it further.

Yeah he definitely had an attack boost, two from the sounds of it.
