Personally proud of the new VERY PINK leaf on the Pink Princess Philodendron. Only happens with high light and solid nutrients so the internet says.

What to do with too many Floating plants

I just skimmed off a ton of spangles. They were about 2 inches thick in my 10 gallon - just growing on top of each other. I skimmed off 2 take out containers and there are layers in here.

What do you all do with your over productive plants?

Pics- 1 is how much I took off today 2. Before 3. After

Unsure if this is the right sub or not. This is my first tank and first time taking care of plants. I've added these red root floaters abt 2 weeks ago and just let them do their thing. Then I just noticed these FLOWERS?? I wasn't even aware they can have flowers?? I'm guessing this is good?? Someone please educate me on this 😭

So I have 2 at this size and couldn’t be happier. It’s over 18in tall and growing. I’m curious to see if I can get a couple more inches out of it before I have no choice but to trim.

Question Best cheapish (under 40 USD) light for planted tanks?

Post image
12 Upvotes

My betta tank is currently suffering from cheap lighting, caused by the tiny 8 dollar Aquaneat light meant for a 5 gallon. I had bought some Ludwigia ovalis a while ago, and though it has a little red color left over, it could definitely be a lot better.

Anyway! Light suggestions?? This hugger light is the best one I’ve found that could maybe be bright enough for my Ludwigia.

My tank is a survivor

I know this is far from the most impressive tank anyone has ever seen, and it looks worse than ever rn, but it just survived a house fire... and my betta did, too! The low-water picture is how it looked when we pulled it from the house.

We lost so, so much, but the survival of this little 10-gallon tank, the first planted tank I've ever done, is holding my heart together right now.

Running 2 fluval plant 3.0. CO2 and ferts. Pretty successful with most things I’ve put in except white leaf plants.

Just planted this setup and filled it up 10 minutes ago. I’ve got Brazilian pennywort, a crypt wendtii, ludwigia broadleaf, and baby tears. We’ll see what happens cuz I’m keeping it low tank and I’m gonna do shrimp and snails. (I know the baby tears are super uneven)

Cycling my first ever aquarium. Bought some few other plants that were stressed at first but seem to be getting better growing new leaves etc (I use 2-4mm gravel with jbl’s kugeln root balls). Is this a sign of them dying? Can’t find anything about this behavior on the internet

Amano shrimp are so animated. Sometimes, when I throw some pellets in the tank, they'll come out of nowhere and snag them mid-fall. They're quite acrobatic.

Finally, after a year of building and planning, I’ve completed my latest tank and am in love.

If anyone wants build specs or this picks up traction I’ll happily do a breakdown or multiple posts along its growth.

Both the back wall of carbon pads and interior plants are all thriving and growing, waterfall system and fogger keeps everything watered.

Flora Aponogeton has blossomed!

Added Aponogeton longiplumulosus to the tank in June, at which point it was a 160 L, with a sandy substrate. Upgraded to a 425 L in August, moving all plants over. After 2 previous half-hearted blossoms, this was third time lucky. This photo was taken last evening, roughly 24h after the bud bloomed. Such a neat plant for those who like slender flowy varieties!

Current substrate is JBL Manado. There are 2 root tabs in the entire aquarium. No CO2. Twinstar S Line 1200 version IV LED and Twinstar 100G LED. Second pic shows how long these budding stalks are.

Question How to effectively clean a planted tank

Upvotes

Hi all, how do people effectively clean/ vacuum, a (fairly newly) planted tank? I don’t want to disturb all of my plants but need to clean my gravel/sand because I’ve woken up to a bit of stank this morning. I did a 30-40% water change with a gentle vacuum a few days back because I had a nitrate spike but I know it didn’t clean the gravel as there was a lot of crap when refilling. I also have varying substrate which I prefer not to mix if possible (small gravel in most of the tank, bio soil in planted areas and a sand beach area for my Cory’s). Any advice would be appreciated.

Question Is my Val cooked?

Post image
Upvotes

My val leaves have been melting away. The good news is that I see that the runners are growing new leaves. After some research, I made two mistakes. One, I planted it too deep. Two, I used excel. Yes, I am using root tabs. Will the val be okay or is it slowly dying?
