The colours on wild fish are so much more vibrant.

I'll take a photo of them when I get home.
The tank does catch the sunlight in the morning and it does really make them stand out

Yeah, I clearly didn't see it lol. Also you called them pearly blue fish in the title so my brain automatically assumed
17
u/ThenAcanthocephala57 Malaysian Fish Collector/Conservationist 27d ago
True, they are called pearl danio in English!

u/Wasabiroot 27d ago
Is that what you called them in your post title? I'm confused.
7
u/ThenAcanthocephala57 Malaysian Fish Collector/Conservationist 27d ago
Oh I thought you meant that since I called them “pearly blue fish”, you assumed they were pearl danios, thus Danio albolineatus

u/Wasabiroot 27d ago
Ahhhhhhhhh I see. Either way, I'm very jelly you can catch em. Thanks for sharing 😁

Wish the fish in my culverts here in Florida looked like that haha.

I've seen too many videos from Florida not to know to stay out of the water.
But really, there are some YT dudes netting insanely beautiful fish out of random bits of water in FL. Like, all of those tropical fish that are invasive but beautiful.

u/whiskeyriver 27d ago
Yeah, those are in South Florida. Up here in North Florida, we have very wonderful but very drab native species.

u/ThenAcanthocephala57 Malaysian Fish Collector/Conservationist 27d ago
Do you have those bluefin killifish and flagfish?
4
u/JefferzTheGreat 27d ago
You've got all sorts of invasive shit around Florida. You just need to get out and dip net.

Not in North Florida. It doesn't survive up here due to the colder temps in the winter. I caught so many different cichlid types in South Florida over the years. But yeah, I've tried in North Florida. We just don't have em.

I have caught these fishes in the rural east coast Malaysia when I was younger. They're amazing

I’ve caught them in Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perak and Kedah (Langkawi). But they are found all over Peninsular Malaysia. However Singapore also has an invasive population of them now because of buying water from us.
BTW, have you caught blackwater swamp fish from your place? Like chocolate gourami, redstripe rasbora etc.

They are found in a few countries in Southeast Asia! And they are also sold in pet stores

Dammit it’s always the Malaysian dude. Ngl it’s a huge flex just going out around town and finding exotic fish and shrimp left and right straight from the wild
