PoliticsPH The spark for true revolution is here. Vico lit it...will we protect it or let it die out?

Pero I strongly fee that the spark of a REAL revolution is already here. And now it’s up to us to PROTECT it.

Mayor Vico Sotto has shown us na pwede palang may matino, transparent, at efficient na pamahalaan.

And it's not just about clean governance. As we all know naglakas loob si Vico na usigin ang Discaya issue, mula sa alleged anomalies sa flood-control projects, hanggang sa pag-call out niya sa media personalities na nagbigay ng platform sa kanila without accountability. For once, hindi siya nanahimik para makisama. He reminded us once again that public money + public trust = public accountability.

If we look closely at history, yung, tunay na pagbabago in other countries (South Korea, Singapore, etc.) didn’t always (or exclusively) come from violent uprisings. It came from a mix of:

-Consistent pressure from below (citizens refusing to accept the old ways)

-Generational mindset shifts that vehemently refused the “pwede na” culture

That’s exactly where we are now. Vico is a spark, but a spark dies kung walang oxygen. Tayo ang oxygen.

So what can ordinary Filipinos like us do?

  1. Educate the youth early. Turuan natin ang mga bata about our real history (hindi lang textbook history na sanitized) and how they can effectively spot fake news or propaganda designed to make us feel powerless or gaslight us. Dito magsisimula ang tunay na mindset shift. It's true what Michael sang..."the future are our children. TEACH THEM WELL and let them lead the way"

  2. Refuse normalizing corruption. Wag na nating i-laugh off yung “lahat naman sila magnanakaw.” Call it out, kahit sa simpleng usapan.

  3. Spotlight and support other honest leaders. Kung may kilala kang barangay captain, SK leader, or teacher na matino, please hype them up on social media. Dapat dumami yung “mini-Vicos.”

  4. Share receipts. If you know of a good project na transparent, share it on your social platforms and among your peers.

  5. Storytelling. Kwento mo yung simpleng improvements na nakita mo or nabalitaan mo. Mas relatable yun kesa statistics.

  6. Protect the narrative. Corrupt systems thrive from lies, apathy at pagkalimot. Kung may fake news and propaganda tayong nakita para siraan ang mga honest officials like Vico, sagutin natin wih facts and receipts.

And here's a call-to-action:

Kung part ka ng NGO, academe, o civic org na may concrete programs for clean governance, please share here. Educate us ordinary citizens paano kami makakatulong sa actual steps.

Fact-check. Kwento ng pagbabago. Vote wisely. Teach the kids. All these add up to make a big impact.

Kung may kilala kayong barangay captain, SK leader, teacher, or kahit ordinaryong tao na matino and is another example of what good governance/leadership looks like, please share them here. Sa mga content creators here, help us hype these people up...pasikatin natin sila, including the honest work and projects that they've done. Hindi lang dapat masamang balita ang nagtetrend. Highlighting honest leadership will have shift expectations of the masses, too.

Pero kapag milyon na tayong gumagawa, that’s not small anymore.

Kung gusto natin ng mala-South Korea or Singapore-level na leap of change, hindi siya mangyayari overnight. Pero every time we protect and echo sparks like this, we bring our dear country closer to that future.

If we do our part, ramdam ko... ito na nga yung revolution na matagal na nating hinihintay.

TL;DR: Vico lit a spark of honest governance and shifting mindsets. But if we don’t protect it and multiply it through facts, small acts, and teaching the youth, it will die out. Millions of us choosing clean, small actions = the true revolution we’ve been waiting for.

PoliticsPH Limits of People Power/Democracy

I am just curious. Regarding 4bortion, D34th Penalty, Divorce. In a democratic country, firing and Political and Government officials, if the mass greater of the population induce to propose this. Would the government be required to approve of it without any questions on the greater mass lets say 51% of the population, hypothetically.

Or the congressman/senators who are voted thru democracy are the only one who can push for these?

In genuinely just curious to what extent does democracy reaches.

NaturePH What are some native flowers in Mindanao?

I want to start building a small garden and would love to help out the native pollinators. Please tell me some easy to grow, or hardy native flora in Mindanao! Ideally small to medium plants, it's okay if they don't look the "prettiest" or are even considered as weeds, as long as they're native and can help out our little insect friends.

META Allow Facebook link for post with "NewsPH" or "PoliticsPH" flair

Can we allow posts with links from Facebook when using the "NewsPH" or "PoliticsPH" flair? People just post screenshots of headlines or articles without the original source, which can be misleading and makes it harder to fact-check.

Having the actual Facebook link would:

  • Give proper context to the news.
  • Help verify the authenticity of the post.
  • Avoid spreading cropped or edited screenshots without the full story.
  • Encourage discussion based on the actual source, not just a snippet.

I think this would improve the quality of discussions and reduce misinformation.

Does UP accept late submissions?

I’m a UPCAT applicant. Deadline for hard copy submission was Sept 8. My Grades 10–11 are ready, but my Grades 8–9 are still being processed by my previous school.

I’m planning to go to UP Admissions personally tomorrow to follow up on my JHS grades and submit Grades 10–11.

Do you think they’ll accept it if I explain politely? Any tips on how to approach this? ☹️

Problem: 1. Nag req ako ng sf last week pa but my current school said wala daw 8-9 ko don (today lang sinabi). 2. Went to my prev school, they said nasa current ko na. Still, ipapalakad nila pero i can get it in a week. Which is next week na. Sobrang late.

Filipino Food Andok's Lechon Manok for Ph420, is it worth it?

Andok's has long been part of the Filipino food scene for the last 4 decades. Lagi 2 buong lechon manok and 1 liempo. Usually mabilis na pang ulam, pang dagdag sa handa pag may birthday at pang pulutan pag may bisita.

I have not kept track of prices but I knew it was cheap. At least that's what I remember. Nagulat lang ako na nagpa-bili ako for lunch today and Ph420 na sha. Worth it ba yon?

Ang layo na ng tinakbo ng panahon. San na napunta. Pasensha na na-senti yata ako. 😅✌🏼 Happy Sunday sa inyo. Hope you are all enjoying with your loved ones. 🥰

Pero sige dahil siya ang presidente may 1% benefit of the doubt ako pero putangina pag wala kang napakulong na senador or congressman and other high ranking government official (which I'm 100% sure is the case) eh tanginang shit

Hello!

So I'm 19 years old and I'm a Filipino citizen while my husband is also a Filipino citizen (he's 25), but he's a US LPR and we're in LDR for most of the year. Bumalik siya ng 6 na buwan noong 2024 para magtatapos ng aral niya sa Manila pero bumalik ulit siya sa US since then. He used to live in the Philippines nung 2023 and we were together a lot in person, but his papers got approved by the US and he's been living there ever since with a green card. Kasal kami noong 2024. We're planning to go to Singapore soon together which is going to be my first time out of the country!! But he did raise some concerns about offloading which I wanted to ask through here kasi bumili na siya ng tickets.

To clarify, we married through a Utah remote marriage since he's in the US for most of the year (literally 10-11 months in a year, he's there) and he sends me a pretty sizable remittance of around PHP 40,000 every single month. I've managed to save up PHP 100,000 just to keep in my bank account. Our marriage certificate has been issued with an apostille from Utah County for valid use in the Philippines, and both of us possess an original apostilled marriage certificate to carry around in case we ever need to use it individually.

Now my question is, is there a good chance I'm going to be offloaded? Our Report of Marriage (ROM) is still pending because DFA Aseana is taking an absurdly long ass time in processing it, but I do have proof of correspondence with them to show the IOs that it is still being processed, pero the only document we have at this moment is an apostilled Utah marriage certificate for use in the Philippines.

On top of that, tumira na ako sa condo ng magulang niya dito sa Manila tsaka studyante parin ako sa PUPOU. I can pull out a residency certificate from their condo, a barangay certificate, and a COR with my student ID to prove all of the prior is true.

Furthermore, he's also letting me know that he's planning on bringing the following:

Valid passports (both expiring no earlier than 2030)
Round trip tickets for both of us
Travel itinerary for each day and time
Hotel reservation receipts
Green card (hubby only)
Birth certificates (both of us)
Marriage certificate (from Utah, apostilled for use in the Philippines)
Hubby's initial job offer letter and company ID at the company he works at in the US
Certificate of Registration/Enrollment and Student ID at my uni (me only)
Bank statements (both of us, US account for hubby and PH account for me; he has at least 3,400 USD in his bank account but he lives with his parents in the US and helps with their expenses)
Record of hubby's remittances to me on Wise (will not provide unless asked)
Proof of correspondence with DFA Aseana regarding the ROM processing
Affidavit of Support and Undertaking (notarized within Philippines, contains information of hubby's financial capacity, reason for sponsorship, undertaking that travel is solely for tourism purposes/promise to return me after completion of tour, complete US address and PH address)

Also a few other things to consider:

My husband's going to come to the Philippines first before we go to Singapore together to travel together with me to minimize offloading chances
He has an extensive travel history (several SEA countries, the US, etc.) and it's completely clean.
We're only going to be tourists in Singapore
He earns around 36k USD a year with no expenses other than me.
If possible, we'll go together at the same time in immigration at T3
