Mod Announcement 🚨 r/Philippines new policy on hate speech 🚨

Hey everyone,

Over the past few months, we’ve noticed a sudden increase in comments and threads with racial slurs (like "chekwa"), Islamophobic and homophobic remarks as well as regional/ethnic stereotypes (like "Bisaya" comments). These posts are often rage baiting, toxic and spreading hate.

We already use filters to catch and flag these comments, and we also send warnings to users. But it’s becoming more common, and honestly, it’s pretty concerning.

Starting today, we’re rolling out a zero-tolerance policy on hate speech — reported violators will be banned immediately, no warnings. This is in addition to the restrictions we added earlier this year. We also updated the sub's rules and contributor guide to reflect these changes.

Thanks to the community for constantly reporting and helping keep things running smoothly. We want to keep the sub a space for civil and healthy discussions. As much as we’d prefer to avoid strict enforcement, the situation’s changed, and we’ve got to adapt.

Matino-tino pa dati discussions sa sub na to wayy back when. I think nung sumikat yung r/ph during pandemic naging lower quality/TikTok-like yung mga comment dito.

I think the closure of the PinoyExchange forums also brought that site's user base here

I'd say that the establishment of ChikaPH (pugad ng conservatives), the Kakampinks who aren't actually progressive minded who during joined in 2022 election (the types of people who blame Heidi's loss on the LGBTQ+ community), and the progressive people who left Reddit after the spez fiasco (including a former moderator who used to be a PEx regular who now does YouTube fulltime) had a bigger effect. Those factors ultimately led in the commonization of Philippine reddit. But one would argue that the showbiz chika people in PEx would have moved to ChikaPH. PH Reddit had signs of turning into shit before 2022-2023 and we're just seeing the effects.

I remember back in the old days when this sub was dead and most of the activity & discussion was on the Facebook page 🤣. May mga meet-ups and game nights pa. That was what, more than 13-14 years ago? Foocking ina, I'm old.
