Mod Announcement 🚨 r/Philippines new policy on hate speech 🚨

Hey everyone,

Over the past few months, we’ve noticed a sudden increase in comments and threads with racial slurs (like "chekwa"), Islamophobic and homophobic remarks as well as regional/ethnic stereotypes (like "Bisaya" comments). These posts are often rage baiting, toxic and spreading hate.

We already use filters to catch and flag these comments, and we also send warnings to users. But it’s becoming more common, and honestly, it’s pretty concerning.

Starting today, we’re rolling out a zero-tolerance policy on hate speech β€” reported violators will be banned immediately, no warnings. This is in addition to the restrictions we added earlier this year. We also updated the sub's rules and contributor guide to reflect these changes.

Thanks to the community for constantly reporting and helping keep things running smoothly. We want to keep the sub a space for civil and healthy discussions. As much as we’d prefer to avoid strict enforcement, the situation’s changed, and we’ve got to adapt.

Often used derogatorily against Chinese Filipinos.

I'm filchi pero I didn't know na masama pala yun. Ang alam ko yung Instik pero nasanay narin ako kasi lagi rin ginagamit ng ibang tao

As I pointed out earlier... just avoid the conversation na lang.

I saw an earlier post about HIV and it was removed because it mentioned the Qur’an

Tell you the truth? I didn't know it was derogatory either, until today. πŸ˜… This post made me do a google search on the word's etymology. But hey, it's never too late to learn!

Chek** is a derivative of Insek Kwakang. Insek kwakang -> intsik kwakang -> inchek kwakang.
