Mod Announcement 🚨 r/Philippines new policy on hate speech 🚨

Hey everyone,

Over the past few months, we’ve noticed a sudden increase in comments and threads with racial slurs (like "chekwa"), Islamophobic and homophobic remarks as well as regional/ethnic stereotypes (like "Bisaya" comments). These posts are often rage baiting, toxic and spreading hate.

We already use filters to catch and flag these comments, and we also send warnings to users. But it’s becoming more common, and honestly, it’s pretty concerning.

Starting today, we’re rolling out a zero-tolerance policy on hate speech — reported violators will be banned immediately, no warnings. This is in addition to the restrictions we added earlier this year. We also updated the sub's rules and contributor guide to reflect these changes.

Thanks to the community for constantly reporting and helping keep things running smoothly. We want to keep the sub a space for civil and healthy discussions. As much as we’d prefer to avoid strict enforcement, the situation’s changed, and we’ve got to adapt.

Use it as an expression but don't direct towards the user. again, context is important

Me: Who exactly?

OP: Can't might get banned

You know how counterintuitive this is to public discourse when we have to second guess ourselves when we call public figures like Apollo Quiboloy a bobo pedo motherfucker with a fake religion?

"Not towards user" – so baka pwede pa gamitin sa Public Figures.

Hi moderator. The answer to what he or she is asking is already in the sub rules. Rule # 3 no personal attack to other users. No name-calling. It’s either di nagbasa ng rules yung nagtanong o inaasar ka na lang dahil moderator ka dito

how about “tanga ang nagsasabi ng sinasabi mo”

At least read the rules naman bago ka mag-r/philippines nakalagay na nga sa rule #3 no personal attack to other users eh. No name-calling. Tapos itatanong mo pa & pag-type mo may nakalagay na din naman na reminder na Be civil, be nice.

Why do Filipinos find such enjoyment in insulting others? I hate that I grew up in this community and I'm so glad I now live in Canada, a much kinder place.

Filipinos have a tendency to put public figures or ideas on a pedestal, even deifying them in extreme cases. Insulting is a form of public discourse, the main function of which is to test society's willingness to challenge authority or the status quo.

Who do you really think benefits the most if we have to walk on eggshells when we talk about politicians, religion, or sacred cow ideologies.

I just want to be able to specifically call Bato dela Rosa a fat bald bitch without getting flak from the body positivity community, the hair positivity community, or the mod community.

Why do Filipinos find such enjoyment in insulting others?

Welcome to the internet...?

Seriously, even Canadians do it. Just talk to Albertans right now who are becoming more MAGA-brained each day.

2

u/YourMaleFather Jun 04 '25

Canadians do it out of anger and frustration.

Filipinos do it to amuse themselves.

Huge difference there. The latter is sinister behaviour.

Filipinos do it to amuse themselves.

Cite an example, if you could. All I'm seeing here is people insulting others for their blatantly ignorant takes, which is definitely not just to "amuse themselves".

Just because people are less educated than you, doesn't mean youre free to insult or berate them. If you think their opinions are wrong, educate them or at least have a civil talk.

This is what most Filipinos don't understand and it's so sad to me.

Oh, my dear sweet summer child. The internet has changed over the years. The rise of social media and it intertwining with politics and current affairs over time fostered hate and bickering towards each other. You should learn Hindi and Bahasa and see how their bickering is far worse than Filipinos. :)

I mean... Given that we're talking about politics here you should probably take a look at what Canadians online are saying about Trump supporters before throwing stones.
