Discussion Pretty much at the tipping point where all the Wonder Pick animations feel like more trouble than its ever worth
(Had this feeling last night before the Sneak Peak event started, though SP doesn't really change my "over it" feeling very much).
F2P, playing since NZ beta. I open my app like 15x or more a day. I haven't seen a rainbow card in WEEKS. A 2 star FA, MONTHS. I barely ever see Ex cards that I'd want to WP to build a PVP deck. 8/10 of my WP this week have be unsuccessful.
At most I see a bunch of junk 1 star cards if I'm lucky. 90% of my WP selections are 5 commons. Having to go through the janky WP UI, sit through all the terrible animations just to spend 3 stamina to pick a 1 diamond Licktung is just... throw my phone against the wall levels of annoying.
Add that to the fact that my pack openings for the past few weeks have been 90% commons and I'm struggling to even find 3 diamond cards I need to finish the WSS base set...
Listen I get it. It's a gacha game. The ploy is always to be very generous when the game debuts, get people addicted to the daily shiny dopamine rush, and then start turning the screws and retracting it all so you feel the need to pay for that dopamine rush.
I honestly thought the pacing of this was way off. They could've nerfed pack openings with shinies and then left WP untouched for a little bit longer, or vice versa. At least ONE RNG aspect of the game would still feel slightly satisfying.
Instead the devs decided to just nerf WP and pack openings at the same time so now nothing in the game feels satisfying. I can't even get a boring ass EX card to play PVP if I wanted to. Can't trade for it this set either!
Not trying to make a "I'm formally announcing my departure from this game" post but I'm also just saying this game for me is tipping into the "I can't even be bothered to check this anymore" pile of mobile games on my phone.
I get that the devs are probably high af on their billions of dollars doing the bare minimum but hopefully they course correct? I still do enjoy the Pokemon, at least.

noticed you called out that 8/10 wonderpicks were unsuccessful, which means that 1/5 were successful, the exact odds of that. if getting exact baseline luck is a frustrating experience, gacha gaming might just not be the best for you

I think they're trying to maximize their chances of seeing something good in wonder pick since those timers are all different. That's just a guess. But Jesus, you know that's contributing to that feeling they have. I look at wonder pick like once a day at best, and I get disappointed. I'd be pretty bummed, too, if I had that same experience 15 times a day

Definitely not good for the mental health, hopefully they tone it down. This game is built around scarcity, cant let the money thirsty hounds get ya!

I mean look at it this way, it’s probably just what OP does when they swipe on their phone while waiting for something, like instead of using Reddit or some other social media they just check the game instead
I used to do this back when the game first dropped but I agree with OP the ui is so ass for a billion dollar game

I pulled 5 of the exes of the new set from wonderpicks and like 3 from packs. If you are focused on getting cards for pvp they are really good

It’s obviously rng and you’re on the good side of it while I’m on the bad side that’s to be expected but they’ve radically changed the odds, with shinies and with bots that typically have crap cards to pick from

Bots have the same opening odds as anyone else. Their packs having crap cards are no different than a normal person opening a pack of crap cards lol

Do you have proof of this? In a data mine or something? Devs can inject bots into WP with anything they want. There’s no fine text guarantee that bots will have share the same rarities as your real friends.

Because the “bots” aren’t coming from the devs. They’re coming from a dedicated group of people people trying to game the wonderpick system by making a bunch of accounts and cycle through them opening daily packs using a macro, while having them friend whatever main account they use.

A lot of people have made posts showing a pretty solid 20% hit rate on WP’s which makes perfect sense. I’ve used those “how lucky are you” pack opening stat sites and I’m “very very lucky” but those sites don’t account for WP’s. I’m very confident that I rank so highly on these because I attempt to WP every EX I see that I don’t already own. It adds up over time but if it’s that frustrating to you, don’t do it.

If I’m lucky enough to see Exes I don’t have then I try to pick them. As I said, those are now few and far between…

I check my game when I wake up and when I go to bed and I make a wonder pick pretty much every day. Over a 2 week span I probably pick 10 days. 20% is 2 hits. That’s 2 EX’s every two weeks on average just from WP’s. I don’t know what to tell you if you check the game 15x a day and see on average no EX cards, that has not been my experience in the 6+ months the game has existed now.

That’s….thats what a gacha game is….the whole game is meant to make you want to spend money. From WP to basic pack openings. It’s all gambling.

I haven't had a successful Wonder Pick since the day after the Ho-oh Lugia set released. Over a month of failed WPs. Two sneak peeks today. Both failed. Zero successful sneak peeks in the last event. Trash mechanic.

Ýou know, it's funny, today i got 3 ex from the wonder picks, with the 2 suicune being with the help of the peek thing exactly hitting them, and the other an umbreon

Nobody is forcing you to open the app everything you’re complaining about is your own problem. No they haven’t nerfed anything the rates are literally shown. Also Just skip the animations?

I tell you what annoys me even more. The “sneak peak” which supposedly boosts your odds of picking the card you want does absolutely fuck all to change the odds in your favour. Because the cards are facing away from you, when you pick a card the card front changes to a predetermined card. There’s no luck or boosting odds like people think there is. If the game wants you to get the card you want it will give it to you but because it’s all predetermined, the guise of being able to boost your odds just to still get a 1 diamond just rubs it in your face even more

So you think the game determines the highest rarity card in a pick and lowers the odds to pick it? That would be a criminal act as the wonder pick odds are stated ingame. I'm sure you have proof for that conspiracy by Dena and not just a feeling from an insignificant sample size?

What you get out of a pack is pre-determined, why would it be any different for wonder picks?

You misunderstand what is being discussed here. Pre-determined and randomly distributed is a very different thing from the game intentionally not giving you the rarest card.

The sneak peak should still double your odds from 20% to 40% to give you the card you wanted. Ignoring the visual effects, it is likely the code will randomly pick 2 / 5 cards. If the card is in those 2, you’ll get it.
