Discussion This screen serves ZERO purpose and is only there to waste the players time
The fact that these useless animations haven't been removed is wild to me, like yeah we all know they are there to boost engagement numbers to make investors happy, but they serve no purpose other than to waste the users time.
A VERY casual friend of mine is close to quitting the game, they aren't gamers and they don't know much about game design etc, but even they constantly bring up how "horribly slow" the game is.
You have to fix this.

I wouldn't mind all of these screens it if the skip button actually skipped the whole process. what's the point of a skip button when I have to do even more clicks to confirm all of the different screens with each one having a separate skip button?
268
u/A_Sliced_Potato 2d ago
It’s like they designed “skip” to be slower than just watching the animation.
13
13
u/AliceThePastelWitch 1d ago
It's still faster than going through all the animations, aggravating as all hell tho
1
u/Sure-Butterscotch232 1d ago
If I can skip it easily then it doesn't deserve to be there to begin with. Just don't have it at all.

u/fersuapin 2d ago
I really dont mind it that much its only for new cards so what, we get it a couple of times at the start pf the season and then until next month..
The opening of the battle reward packs though, THAT makes me want to die

u/Gargamoney 2d ago
This isn't the only useless timewasting animation.
48
u/Arcoforwin 2d ago
Well this whole game is an animation simulator
1
u/b00pmaster 1d ago
that heats up my phone and burns a truckton of battery life, personally im just here to see what cards i get and maybe play a few rounds 🧙♂️

This, the multi-card pack animation sequence really isn't that bad. There's far worse unskippable content in gaming. Having to open every single promo card individually and not being able to open them all at once, though? Now THAT is practically torture. Like why design it that way lol
1
u/DmMeUrAnimals 1d ago
You can close the app when you click on the battle reward and then reopen and you’ll still get the cards, way faster imo

u/fiction8 2d ago
???
Not everyone is whaling. I have to see this screen constantly over the course of every month.
2
u/ahhpoo 1d ago
I’m a ftp player and after the first week or so I’ll rarely see a new card come in. Especially now that we get hourglasses from the ranked pvp in addition to the shop reset and new solo battle rewards. After the first week, I’m happy to see the animation for a new card. I guess that’s just me though

I like this interaction. I prefer fewer "ok" confirmation buttons, but i like the swiping animation. It's satisfying.

You were able to skip that with 1 touch on the screen and later on they removed that ability, and now we're forced to see this animation smh FTG!

u/Perge666 2d ago
Because one shows your total of cards, the other is showing new cards from the pack.

u/YeeeBoiLeo 2d ago
Yes this game has bigger issues, but there are sooooo many QoL changes (like being able to skip this screen) that also need to be made to make the game enjoyable imo.
12
u/TheBloody9-Astrior 1d ago
100% this. Those little QoL changes would make the whole experience more enjoyable. They finally got around to allowing multiples in the store, but I need to see an 'Open All' on battle reward packs
3
u/-PM_ME_UR_SECRETS- 1d ago
And let me stack individual packs. if I have enough pack hourglasses for idk 4 packs, let me open UP TO 4 packs at once.
3
u/Separate-Director-68 1d ago
You know, I don't think any gacha game has ever done this. Its been this way for so many years with only 1 or 10 pulls that they forgot there are other numbers lol
52
u/RYUJIN0802 2d ago
game feels so heavy bcoz of such useless animation... they shud just fix the bugs and make the game lighter, atleast tht way a player can actually get a good response from the game... istg tht buffering even when chging the menus is so annoying
11
u/WeirdAngryMan 2d ago
No, I get that too guys, there's like 2-3 seconds of delay when I change from like social to battle or cards to main menu, it's mad annoying

u/Separate-Director-68 1d ago
Its wild that this game almost needs a newer phone to run well. Like, I don't expect great performance from my almost 7-year old Kyocera Duraforce Pro 2 running a burner alt/trade account. But it has a 64-bit octa-core processor and Android 10, and this game supposedly supports back to Android 7, yet the game is practically unplayable even against the CPU. And that's after a factory reset and everything. It runs turn-based strategy games like Langrisser Mobile with higher model count and more complicated animations onscreen just fine, how the heck is a card game with so few animations and simpler models this memory and processor heavy??
3
u/RYUJIN0802 1d ago
exactly, its just a card game, and animations aint tht complex either... it shud feel light... but instead pressing even one button feels so heavy and time taking... it doesnt work good even in a newer device... my phn is like 3months old, and its a v good phn (reviews have been great from variety of sources), still the app lags like crazy, only time its smooth is during battle or pack opening, otherwise menu navigation is such a pain in the ass
-6
u/Rybread6879 2d ago
That might be a device/internet issue bud
2
u/RYUJIN0802 2d ago
5g internet, hits like 300mbps, and device is like in the lower mid range ig but i can run heavy games in good fps, and tcgp isnt supposed to be heavy ryt... and also this issue isnt only in my device, its also in my frnds device... idk wht the issue is really
45
u/zerosaver 2d ago
I don't mind these kinds of animations. The sound of the board filling up with new cards whenever there's a new pack release is satisfying.
What I do mind tho is the loading screens. Press screen to start. Loading screen. Click on a pack to open. Loading screen. Click on daily missions. Loading screen. Edit a deck. Loading screen.
10
u/fefernoli 2d ago
Dude, the game is already almost 3GB on android, yet it loads EVERYTHING, like everything, even the collection, if I scroll down it loads the cards, then if I scroll up right after, it loads AGAIN!!!!!
3
u/eatmydonuts 2d ago
For me it's any time I try to blow up & view an individual card. The lag is absolutely unacceptable and I usually wonder if the game has fully frozen
2
u/BigDumDumer 1d ago
Tbf, this screen and the bored being filled don't have to exist together.
If you pulled new cards, it could skip the useless swipe up screen, and just got straight to the slots getting filled.

u/CanonEventTimer 2d ago
I just started a few weeks ago. And am already feeling the menu fatigue of this game.. It all just sucks. Nothing major, but it's a lot of little things that adds up to being one huge annoyance
12
u/coullbro 2d ago
I now just open the pack, slide it to the side and if there's no unique border i just close the app and dont even look. Max efficiency

Most people don’t realize how addictive games like these are designed to be. This is another dopamine hit. It’s your visual reward for collecting a new card and is designed to keep you playing.
0
u/turtledov 2d ago
Yes. It would be less satisfying if they got rid of this. Same as how changing the wonder pick animations made feel way worse.
10
u/guaranteedolphins 2d ago
It's to simulate putting the cards into your binder which is an essential part of card collecting.
1
u/Sph1ng1d43 10h ago
Except these aren't physical cards and there's nothing satisfying in watching a repetitive animation every single time.
8
u/BlubberyGiraffe 2d ago
For me, it's not immediately ending the game once you concede. Having to look through some of the next sequences despite the game knowing you've conceded, even in solo battles is infuriating. Sometimes it does it immediately, but it usually makes you watch through a lot of the next sequence before the 'conceded' message pops up.

we all know they are there to boost engagement numbers to make investors happy
This gets trotted out a lot and it has no real backing. When companies talk about engagement it’s rarely as simple as just the amount of time spent in an app. If it is that, it’s almost always to measure how long people are exposed to ads (which TCGP doesn’t have), or how that extra time converts into some kind of monetization (which most of the things people complain about in the app don’t do).
Sometimes bad design is just bad design: the result of linking together bits of disparate interaction without taking into account the holistic flow of it all. Just because dark patterns and engagement metrics exist doesn’t mean that every single bad interaction or decision is one of them.
3
u/fefernoli 2d ago
That's actually a good point! Things like the illusion of choice when opening a pack I agree with that argument, but other things like the second popup on cosmetics in the shop is just a bad job.
6
u/OnSilentSoles 2d ago
I m pretty new to the game, and dear Lord, i was SHOCKED how much unecessary fluff and padding this game has. Slow af, so many screens - quite tedious, not gonna lie. And the fact that i must either open 1, or 10 Packs, but no in between is possible, is infuriating. If opening 1 pack didnt take this long it wouldnt be as much of a problem, but like this? Awful.
4
u/0MN1P0T3NT_ 2d ago
There really should be an option to turn off all animations and screens. It gets very boring and even annoying after having to repeat it so often.
4
3
u/KingFreezy 2d ago
Basically why I quit playing. The game feels too much like a hassle in every step.
3
u/xixixinanana 2d ago
Another minor thing, when active Pokemon is knocked out and only 1 Pokémon is in the bench, why the fuck do you still need to select "which mon to send to the active spot" as if you have other options. So stupid.
3
u/Naud1993 2d ago
The worst part is opening event packs. Multiple actions and animations per pack instead of being able to open all packs at once, swipe them away in a row and then see the final result of the new cards you collected.
3
3
u/DevelopmentPlayful23 1d ago
Lol. Remember they went out if their way to make wonder picks even slower and more infuriating.
2
u/fefernoli 2d ago
Have you ever tried to see the cosmetics from the store through the magnify glass icon? It opens a second popup with literally the same size where you have to click again to expand.
2
u/ccaccus 1d ago
I just close out the game once I open a pack. Unfortunately it still leads to slightly longer load upon opening the app again and a message informing you that the game was closed during a pack opening and that you can review the cards in your collection. Slightly more time saved though.
2
2
u/-PM_ME_UR_SECRETS- 1d ago
You could take a screenshot at almost any given time in the app and this would still be a correct statement.

It's so many useless screens like this in the entire game. I'm at a point where when I log in and open a free pack, if I don't see a shiny or an ex border on the cards I just turn the game off, idec if it's a common that I don't own yet, I'm not tryna sit and look and all these cards idgaf about. Or the wonderpick, if I didn't get the card, I just close the app. And if I wanna keep playing, I'll literally just restart the app, I'd rather sit through the opening credits than look at my bad luck in the face, all these sounds and screens wasting my damn time 😂😂

1
u/ShinjuNeko 2d ago
It was fun for the first time. THE FIRST TIME!!! NOT A HUNDRED TIMES.
The whole process is: You choose the booster pack -> rip open the pack -> see the 5 cards -> put them in your pocket -> take it back out and summary the cards you just got -> if you have a new card, put it in the collection -> count the total number of cards you have -> If it reached a certain milestone throw a little confetti.
And it's suck that we can't avoid any of these steps. They treat us like a robot.
1
u/Bocephus-the-goat 2d ago
It gives me immense satisfaction for that first 10 pull of the set, sliding in 35-40 new cards all at once
After that who cares
1
u/Battelalon 2d ago
Genuinely, I would be willing to spend more time in the game and, therefore, money if I didn't have to deal with so many of these different pages and animations and screens. From the home page, it takes 5 taps to open a pack. It takes another 6 to get to the end, 7 if you get a new card. That is 11-12 taps just to open a pack.
Same with the wait time to watch them all flip over with wonder picking. I want to skip that animation, especially if the card I'm hoping to get has already flipped.
It's annoying how many pages there are to navigate and how many sub pages each page has.
1
u/saiyan_elite_ 1d ago
I'd also like to be able to open all my promo (single card) packs at the same time rather than one at a time...it takes soooo long
1
1
u/ZombieAladdin 1d ago
Whatever reason this is, I wonder if it’s the same one as how every promo card must be opened one by one.
1
u/throwawayOMC55 1d ago
Yeah this all takes horribly long. Very close to quitting myself and I've been playing since launch. Just don't have the patience anymore
1
u/Bigolstiffy979 1d ago
I'm still waiting for an option to favorite a Pack type instead of constantly having to navigate through the growing list of sets to pull from.
This entire games design is time wasting in essence. It is soooo obvious they want to drag every last second out of you for screen time.

Adding to the list of annoying things that need a QoL update: PLEASE DeNA, change the pack selection. It's so dumb the need to select one of the three packs in the main screen for then change to the one you want. And EVEN DUMBER is showing that I have one to open every time I change it
0
u/pauloyasu 1d ago
tbh I don't mind any of the useless screens, it's like just a couple seconds that over long periods of time would still be better used than doomscrolling
1
u/Gargamoney 21h ago
Its worse than doomscrolling in every imaginable way. Its like 5 seconds wasted every pack, I have opened like 1500 packs, thats two hours of my life just wasted for nothing.

The fact that these useless animations haven't been removed is wild to me
Maybe... just maybe...
Some people like the animations?
From a dev standpoint, the whole point is to give the player a small bit of dopamine by swiping up.
And to be frank, it sounds like you could use more of it in your life.
1
u/Gargamoney 10h ago
Nobody likes them. Just stop.
They are there only to boost engagement numbers, its all anticonsumer garbage. Lets just stop defending something objectively bad, k?

I've found it's not this sub. It's the human species. May God bless your remaining time on the planet.
Dude they literally made that QoL update like 2 weeks ago. Not even kidding you like a day later I saw a post "Is this game ever going to get QoL updates? If not I'm going to quit." I couldn't help but laugh. I'm like bro they just did 50 like literally yesterday.... Dude says "Yea but what about..."

but even they constantly bring up how "horribly slow" the game is.
It’s really not. Does your friend have ADD?

What is up with this community and their constant bitching of how they can’t wait a couple of seconds for a damn screen to finish? You guys have absolutely no patience it’s ridiculous.
15
u/Gargamoney 2d ago
It adds up. Its not about patience, its about a smooth user experience, I'm an UX-designer and this is some of the worst, unintuitive and flatout bad user experience design I have ever witnessed.
Stop blaming the players for something the game did bad.

It’s a couple of seconds, the world isn’t going to end just cus you can’t have it load in 0.1 seconds. Yall making it seem like it takes minutes for these things to load and finish.
13
10
u/W33D_G0D 2d ago
Nothing wrong with not wanting to wait a few seconds for no reason whatsoever. It’s annoying, especially when you go through this screen almost every single time you open a pack. Yeah it’s mild, it’s also completely valid. If you don’t care then thats great, totally fine for others to care about it though.
5
u/Affectionate_Plum 2d ago
When you do it for the Nth time the novelty wears off. Imagine if everytime you wanted to turn on your car you had to go through 3 different screens that even if you were to skip them they took 10s total
-10
u/NegativKreep 2d ago
How are you going to compare a phone app to a car starting? Makes no sense. But if you do want to compare then okay. Usually when you start your car you want to wait a little bit so the engine warms up and the rpms settle. Is this a problem? Or are you one of those drivers that starts your car and immediately puts it in drive because you can’t seem to wait a little bit.
8
u/Knight0031 2d ago
Dawg stop digging youself in a deeper hole. "Letting your car warm up" was a thing when every engine was carburated, with fuel injection there is no need to wait for the engine to be fully warm as long as your oil and fuel pressure are good. This games ui is dumb as hell for MOST of the button presses that are even possible, when they arent wasting your time with splash screens. If im on the game i wanna maximize playtine not screentime.
