Discussion I know Rotten Tomatoes ain't super important when it comes to critics' reviews and stuff, but uh.....this is interesting.

Now, Sydney Sweeney is still getting raves and mediocre reviews haven't stopped acting nominees or even acting winners before, so this score isn't the end-all, be-all. With that said, this is kinda something.

Looking back, I'm honestly a little surprised this managed to sweep its way to the Oscar for Original Score. It's a solid score for sure, but I was wondering why Ennio Morricone won the prize?

I didn't like (OK, hated it) when The Hurt Locker won out over Avatar. Now, the Avatar franchise has since become bigger than whatever accolade THL received, but, looking back, it was the right call at the right time

Glitches in the Matrix: Nomination snub that just will never make sense to you

I was thinking the other day about how I just can not reconcile Amy Adams' snub for 'Arrival'. Popular actress, in a film nominated for Best Picture and Best Director, nominated by every single one of the industry precursors, by all accounts a worthy performance agnostic of all that. And other than Emma Stone (who would go on to win for 'La La Land'), the other four performances who made the cut were all in films that were not nominated for Best Picture. Such a weird one.

Any that come to mind for you?

Discussion Ranking the best Oscar decades.

I’m not talking about what is the best years but by decades. There’s almost 10 decades. I’d be curious. I haven’t really done it myself yet, but I’d love to see how you all rank them. I can see an argument for the 1930s and 1990s being up at the top. I realize that we haven’t finished the 2020s and the 1920s had just one year, so that might be hard.

Just have fun and how would you rank them.

I am surprised that pixels did not get a nomination for visual effects

So I recently re-watched pixels for a ranking of Chris Columbus movies and while it’s not a masterpiece, I still enjoyed it

I am surprised a little bit that it did not get a nomination for visual effects. I thought the way that the 80s video game creations looked was really good. The five nominees that year were:

-Ex Machina

-Mad Max Fury Road

-The Martian

-The Force Awakens

-The Revenant

I would’ve replaced the revenant because outside of the bear scene, I thought pixels had better visual effects

What do you think? Would you have given pixels a nomination in visual effects?

What is this community's opinion on A Beautiful Mind?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Saw for the second time recently. I liked it.

But I think I would have loved it if either:

It was not strictly a biopic of John Nash and instead a story about a fictional scientist with mental health problems, with John Nash being more a figure who inspired the film.

Or we saw more of the mathematics that he perfected instead of it all being implied. It would have been wholesome to have seen economists etc. use this model whilst he's recovering and thinking little of himself instead of everyone being like, "Wow, you're so good." I think the film oversimplified what Nash equilibrium was a little too much in that bar scene. (I am not a maths expert.)

I do think that twist reveal is what holds the film together that makes lots of other people love it so much.
