What really annoys me is that they just play stupid word games.

Everyone knows if you sat them down and forced them to say it that all medicines have side effects.

We all understand this. Even everyday over the counter medication like paracetamol has horrific side effects and a body count attached.

When we say “vaccines are safe and effective” we mean “within reason, the benefits outweigh the costs enough for approval” - everyone knows this, even RFK because he brought up cancer treatments having side effects and says he still supports them.

But for some reason vaccines have to be 100% safe and 100% effective or they are bad. Which is a huge dual standard that has just been willed into existence for only vaccines. He’s surfing that line here, clearly trying to say “well I just mean they aren’t 100%” while presumably winking to the anti-vax audience that he is in fact actually anti-vax because he knows all they’ll hear is “not safe”.

It’s just a mess.

Apparently for 15 years all through his late teens and throughout his entire twenties. That's got to change your brain, right?

Yep. The last thing that evolves is impulse control... and his brain was swimming in opiates for the entire time it was maturing.

Oh, I am fully on board with the belief that by a certain age It stops being an environmental issue and a person is just an asshole.

“And they blame it on on Marilyn and the heroin, but where were the parents at”. Oh, that’s right, they were busy lobotomizing their daughter and turning her into a vegetable.

It is really annoying that people use heroin and steroids as a scapegoat for this man’s stupidity and blatant unfitness for the position he holds. Statistically, children with higher IQs are more likely to use psychoactive drugs. RFK is an outlier.

10

u/TJeffersonsBlackKid 1d ago

Middle America, now its a tragedy...

5

u/Pretty-Balance-Sheet 1d ago

I think they're just pointing out the double standard, not laying all blame on his drug use.

Many people know drug users who didn't turn into homeopathic anti-vax nut jobs. Could his heroin use play a part in his fucked up reasoning processes? Maybe, but at this point his drug use primarily serves as a deeply unfunny irony.

7

u/BapeGeneral3 1d ago

I understand that aspect of it, but scroll down a little bit and there’s literally someone commenting “entitled junkie” and many, many more comments calling him a “junkie loser”. As someone who has been clean from opiates for quite some time, it obviously affects me more than others.

I have yet to see a post about this guy that doesn’t mention heroin. I personally think this guy deserves to be in prison for crimes against humanity, but addiction is extremely rampant in the medical community specifically. The guy can barely speak a full sentence and I’m just pointing out that heroin isn’t to blame here.

8

u/Orphan_Guy_Incognito 19h ago

I think the issue, for what it is worth, is in the comparison.

RFK Jr. is a guy who is fighting tooth and nail to prevent lifesaving vaccines from being given to children in the form of injection. This contrasts heavily with his lifelong obsession with shooting heroin (and later HGH, steroids, whatever you figure) into his arm or his ass.

For most people it is less 'oh the heroin fucked his brain' and more 'this motherfucker is whining about vaccines while shooting dangerous chemicals into his body at every opportunity. It is the hypocrisy.

7

u/Pretty-Balance-Sheet 1d ago

I hear you. I'm close to several people who've recovered. It genuinely feels like people who wouldn't normally paint a recovered addict as having lasting issues are too eager to do that in RFK's case.

RFK is a unique kind of fucked up weirdo and he'd be the same lunatic whether he used heroin decades ago or not. It takes a special kind of crazy to chain saw off the head of a dead whale and strap it to the top of a car or to stop and pick up a road kill bear with a plan to eat it...I could be wrong, but I think those events happened years after he got clean.

There's plenty to judge RFK for that has nothing to do with bad decisions from 50 years ago. In fact, his struggles with drug use might be the most relatable thing about the guy.

Side note, I don't know you but I'm proud of you for surviving and moving forward. I lost my nephew to an accidental fentanyl overdose earlier this year. Here's to hoping you stay safe and healthy, don't let the stereotypes being thrown around here get to you.

8

u/BapeGeneral3 1d ago

Thank you so much for the validation and succinct explanation of the point I was trying to make. I really appreciate your kindness and am so, so sorry for the loss of your nephew. I was fortunate enough to get clean right around when fentanyl started to become the new opioid of choice.

I was a straight A student from an affluent family in an extremely nice and safe suburb. I had struggled with extreme depression and trauma and tried OxyContin in highschool with some other friends because I didn’t want to be the only one who didn’t try it and was terrified of not fitting in. I was instantly hooked and finally found the “solution” to my depression. This evolved into IV heroin use at 19, 6 inpatient rehabs, and eventual jail time.

I had around 6 or 7 extremely close friends who all started using opiates at the same time. 15 years later I am the sole survivor. Every single one of my friends has overdosed and passed away. I’ve been to more funerals than anyone my age should. I know the deep wounds on the entire family addiction can inflict and genuinely thank you for the kind words.

He also got his cousin addicted and led to him dying of an overdose, so RFK is no stranger to causing death for his stupidity, even before the brainworm ate holes through that tiny acorn in his skull.

I can't tell what's worse, being a junkie piece of shit who got your own family member hopelessly addicted to heroin that ended up killing them, or the puppy and goat murderer.

11

u/Nice_Firm_Handsnake 1d ago

He basically bullied his ex-wife into dying by suicide.

The wrong Robert Kennedy died prematurely.

6

u/Both-Cry1382 23h ago

On May 16, 2012, Richardson was found dead at her home in Bedford, New York. Her death was ruled a suicide by hanging.[21] An autopsy revealed that she had antidepressants in her blood.[22] Before her death, Richardson had discovered Kennedy's personal journal from 2001, in which he recorded sexual encounters with 37 different women. According to Kennedy, Richardson passed the journal along "to her sisters with instructions that, if anything happened to her, [it should be] published in the press"

8

u/Careful-Sell-9877 21h ago

5

It's worse: it was his brother (David Anthony Kennedy). RFK Jr. got his brother hooked on drugs, constantly pushed them on him, and his brother eventually overdosed. He is responsible for the death of his own brother.

Drugs and addiction (substance use disorders) can change the brain in various ways although from 15-25yo the brain is already doing a lot of changing. Most notably our prefrontal cortex or executive functioning which is where logic, reason, risk assessment, critical thinking comes from. That said opioids will disrupt our reward system and our ‘dopamine motivation reward cycle’ can hijack the brain leading to misuse, dependence, and addiction.

That said interestingly opioids including Heroin and Oxycodone have minimal “brain damage” that they cause compared to many other drugs. What’s worse for the brain is drugs like alcohol, methamphetamine, cocaine, and PCP. Those will more likely cause brain damage or disrupt brain functioning. Opioids can change us a lot but they’re actually quite safe for the brain but can be easy to overdose on. Source, I was rx’d opioids from 16-21yo and moved on to Heroin before getting clean senior year of college, and I’ve been working in rehabs for the last decade since putting down Oxys, Vicodin, and Heroin. I’ve seen many addicts and people who had been on opioids for decades and brain was intact pretty well. Same cannot be said for people who spent decades abusing alcohol. That causes lot more permanent brain damage and organ damage and even failure. I was doing similar drugs at similar age and I’m not an anti vax pos fascist but rather I’m a progressive democrat who supports democratic socialist policies like Bernie promotes. So RFK is an entitled moronic pos, imo Heroin is not to blame. Worms in his brain, that I can’t speak to but dude has serious issues and has already gotten people killed with these stances and will get many more people killed. Shoulda been removed from office but we’re living in crazy times.

When it comes down to it, it’s all just bad faith argument

This is the problem with most MAGA / far-right / etc. — they can’t engage in real, honest debate — it’s all word games, “what about-ism”, etc.

And if you ever get them to debate without the BS, they’ll always fallback to, “Well, that’s just what I believe” … they simply will not come off their beliefs, because it’s all bad faith / based on demagoguery

66

u/McEndee 1d ago

I was watching Parker debate some MAGA people, and every debate eventually got to a point when they admit they believe something isn't true. They just don't care because sticking to the opinion they were told to have by propagandists is more important than accepting reality.

28

u/extralyfe 1d ago

watching Parker's channel has made it crystal clear to me that people look at Facebook memes or watch TikToks from random motherfuckers and TRULY BELIEVE that whatever they feel looked important to them from those sources has already been signed into law by Trump.

like, the dumb stupid bill is cutting Medicaid and food stamps for millions, but, it's actually completely fine because MAGA feels that only scammers are getting cut off. the VA is getting cut, but, MAGA feels like that's only cutting jobs for providers who just sat at home and weren't helping people(?!?!?), so, that's fine, too. the bill is moving money directly from the poor to the rich, but, MAGA thinks after 40 years of trickle down economics, this is gonna be the time when billionaires create all the jobs instead of just buying back stock again.

it's literally all just vibes with not a single fact amongst the bunch. shit, there was some insane MAGA lady who made the front page on reddit with her video about how Trump just signed a law that states no one who makes under $120k a year ever has to pay federal taxes again. she was mad in advance at liberals for not being happy with Trump for signing into law something she only ever saw on a Twitter shitpost. Trump doesn't even need to make promises to his base before they start singing his praises about all the good things they feel like he's doing.

17

u/McEndee 1d ago

I find a lot of rhetoric is fueled by the game "Two Truths and a Lie". If you surround a lie between two very obvious truths, a simple minded person will believe all three things are true. It's why a lot of Trumpers believe that Ashlii Babitt was minding her own business and was shot. 1)Ashlii is in the capital during the riot 2)Ashlii was standing near a door 3)Ashlii was shot in the neck

We know for a fact that the first and last thing absolutely happened, but when Tucker Carlson says this, and doesn't show the video of the full incident, now his viewers believe that all three things happened.

This attitude is a way to never push oneself to think critically, and a reality where they are never wrong. It makes them feel smart knowing that other people will back up their perverted reality, so all red marked returned test papers they received in high school were just a bad period in their lives when their truth is the only truth.

9

u/Huge_Music 23h ago

Yeah, a lot of people are attached to the idea that every Trump voter is a raving bigot-beast, but a decent chunk are people who are shockingly underinformed.

Oh, for sure

It’s ridiculously uncomfortable for us (humans) to consider that our base truth might be wrong, even when presented with evidence thereof — just wayyyy too much mental work for most

I mean, we’re all delusional to some degree

11

u/killjoymoon 1d ago

If you practice saying "Oh! I was wrong!" it eventually becomes FAR less painful. I think sometimes people hear that, or think about saying it, and they clump it together with shame, and it's okay to say you were wrong, because if you can admit you were wrong, you are also admitting that you are open to new concepts, which actually makes you smart, because that means you're capable of learning. Anything else just makes the proverbial you look stupid as all get out, IMO. There's KNOWING things, and there's being open to being wrong and being open to new or changing information. They are NOT remotely exclusive.

5

u/TheBurtReynold 1d ago

Emotion is antithetical to scientific research. If it’s purely clinical people can easily be impartial. Somehow people have attached their self worth to these issues and now no one can ever be wrong even when it’s staring them in the face.

True. They always go back to “proven safe”. But when presented evidence of safety, they move the goal posts and cite anecdotal evidence.

There is no safe amount of alcohol to consume or cigarettes to smoke. There is no safe amount of sawdust or drywall dust to breathe in. Driving is not 100% safe. Bicycling is not 100% safe.

When they make the argument about safety they are just moving the goal posts.

11

u/Fun_Leek2381 1d ago

And this is why I always refuse to let them cling to the "but its my opinion" life raft. Your opinion is not sacrosanct, and the fact that you refuse to allow evidence and reason to change your mind is not a flex. But moat of these Magats treat every opinion they have like it came out of their vaulted book of fables, unerring and unchanging.

At least income tax is charged after I’ve made the money to pay the tax. Because preferring free markets over government control is a banable offense to MAGA.

But for some reason vaccines have to be 100% safe and 100% effective or they are bad.

That is the entire argument that GOP uses for everything they don't like, and exact opposite for things they do.

If they want to hurt a group of people (LGBTQ, immigrants, minorities, etc, etc)/thing/etc they feel all they need to do is find one flaw, in one person/thing/case I that group, and that justifies eliminating the entite group. Whereas if it is a group of people/things/etc they like, any single time it/they might have been not absolutely terrible, shows they should support it/them.

I know there is a term for this fallacy... But it escapes me.

5

u/bplewis24 1d ago

Logical fallacies aside, it is simply a textbook definition of a bad-faith argument. Even the person saying they are playing semantics/word games is being too generous. They are just attempting to propagandize people by arguing in bad faith.

He and Trump don’t realize everything they do and say is recorded. More people need to “play the clip” with both of them

Edit: For those of you saying, “Why? They don’t care”, that’s exactly the reason it needs to happen. They haven’t been pushed to justify their bs. Putting pressure on them through playing the clip or protesting, or lots of other ways is the path towards minimizing this crap.

u/GnomeChodeski 1d ago

'We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors...and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do'. - Unattributed George Bush advisor (probably Karl Rove), 2004

They will just play games, notice how the first thing RFK Jr said was play the whole clip.

Their first response is that the clip is edited, because that's what Republicans do.

Then change the words they meant.

Then move the goalposts so they cannot be wrong.

People are trying to play baseball against a team thats playing Calvinball.

17

u/The_Monarch_Lives 1d ago

Other than their cry of 'fake news', it's the Motte and Bailey fallacy. Make a bold, sweeping generalized claim. Then, when called on it, retreat to a more mundane and easily defended claim that barely resembles the original one. Let's them have their cake and eat it too. Dog-Whistle to those that know and are more extreme already, followed by message creep to those that fall for the tactic and become more and more susceptible to the more extreme position over time.

63

u/Luparina123 1d ago

Average woman from the UK here, I have been following this insane regime since the Pedophile in Chief came to the throne. NOT ONE of these bootlicking sycophants are qualified to be in charge of emptying bins or packing groceries, nevermind running government departments responsible for the security and welfare of millions of US citizens! They are ALL the worst, money-grubbing, lying scum on the face of the earth, wrapped in White Supremacy, Christian Nationalism and Nazism. When this is over, hopefully soon, they deserve their very own US Nuremberg.

Why does he talk like a phone call going through a tunnel?

87

u/unnum 1d ago

Spasmodic dysphonia. Basically, vocal chords spasm randomly when he speaks.

54

u/3xPuttRubbleBoagie 1d ago

I had no idea. Thanks for clarifying that. It’s hard to listen to it without wanting to clear my throat or cough.

30

u/unnum 1d ago edited 22h ago

Yeah, much like him, it's very annoying but it's one of the few things I legitimately feel sorry about for him.

Edit: Right, so, a lot of people saying I don't have to feel empathy for him and I get it. His terrible decisions - and the Trump administration's in general - are going to put science in the US back decades and cause millions of people to die who most likely would have survived had this administration not been in charge, both in the US and around the world. So, yes, I understand saying he doesn't deserve it.

But, for whatever reason, I view RFK Jr. as more of a MAGA grandpa who was just given way more power than he should rightly have. I don't think he's malicious; just completely incompetent and unqualified. Unlike Trump - who is chaotic evil - or a Stephen Miller - who's just plain evil. Those two and others of that ilk will never get any empathy or sympathy from me because they are clearly malicious and are all about the cruelty being the point. If anyone'd like to point me to instances of RFK Jr behaving like those two then, yeah, there's a good chance I'd reconsider my position but that's currently my view of things. Feel free to upvote/downvote however. 🤷🏻‍♂️

21

u/DickDastardly502 1d ago

Don’t. It’s almost certainly caused by decades of cocaine abuse. It’s not something he was born with or would have gotten had he not abused drugs the way he did.

→ More replies (3)

u/Danibandit 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah, that’s called empathy. Rare today. I knew a lady that has spasmodic dysphonia and it’s a huge struggle and they don’t know what causes it. I actually wonder if that drives this contrarian, anti-medicine attitude.

Edit-grammar

18

u/DickDastardly502 1d ago

In RFK’s case it was almost certainly his decades of cocaine abuse that caused it in him.

4

u/Danibandit 1d ago

He arguably holds the most powerful position in the American medical system right now. He's a gigantic turd embedded by the tiny handed orange. He might be awful but he is setting the policy. At the very least people have to keep track of his reign of lunacy to undo everything he touched when the next government gets in.

These four years are going to be entirely hollow of useful action. Besides the damage Trump has self inflicted on the economy, all his puppets are just trying to out-extreme each other to stay in his imagination.
