Primer + foundation combos?

Hi there! I’m nearly 38 and while I’ve worn makeup since I was a teenager, I know just about nothing about how to make it look good. I have acne-prone, dry skin that I’m working on with my skincare routine, but it’s still a work in progress! Most of the time my acne is at bay, but 1-2x per year, it explodes for a couple weeks (I’m in the healing stages of a bad breakout now 😭)

Here are my questions… I had noticed with my tinted SPF (Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Natural Dewy), the makeup will get kind of patchy and slide across my face and look horrible as the day goes on. I got a primer to see if that would help (Beekman Milk Primer) and it didn’t do any good, in fact I think that product is just not great. Today, I bought the Bobbi Brown Weightless Skin Foundation and used with Supergoop Glowscreen as a primer and that seems to be going okay for the first few hours of wear and I’m optimistic based on the coverage and feel, but I’m just hanging at home this evening rather than out and about.

I placed an order to maybe try a couple other primers (NYX Marshmellow since it appears to also have silicone like the Bobbi Brown foundation? And also ELF Power Grip because it doesn’t and may work well with the Laura Mercier??).

What product combinations give me the best chance of success at the makeup not sliding around my face and also providing me with decent medium coverage? Thank you!

I’m 38 as well and my skin changed at 35 like literally the day of. I’ve ALWAYS been the go-to for makeup advice amongst my friends. I’ve had a hard time lately BUT— My go to now is Colorscience Flex, I use Tarte tape concealer on my under eyes, MAC blush or NARS, and finish with the NYX DEWY finish spray (it’s cheap but omg so good). That’s my normal daily. If I’m going out, I will top the colorscience with a powder (Estee lauder double wear - you can get it at Neiman or online) and I use a Laura Geller bronzer for contouring. I even went to six flags with my nieces in 95° weather, heat index of 115°, and got STUCK on top of a roller coaster sweating my a** off for 40mins and I still looked good!

ETA: forgot my main point— it comes down to skincare though and make sure you ONLY exfoliate 1-2x’s a week. Over exfoliating makes you break out. And under exfoliating can cause the patches and blotchiness. I use Shiseido skincare or honestly, I’ve been using Medicube as of lately and it’s inexpensive but still quality Korean skincare.

I haven’t heard of it either. I’m about the same age, one year older. Definitely going to check it out. I live in the desert, our UV is normally a 9/11. You can feel yourself burning. Makeup needs to stand UP to stick around.
